3. [Can-Ont-Lanark] Re: [Renfrew] Greenock Cemetery [1]
Pity poor Janelle who doesn't know Australia was established as a place to send convicts. I believe our list person should not have allowed her to spew her hatred and prejudice on this list. I certainly hope she has been removed from the list by now...genealogists for the most part are caring and sharing people. Let her stew in her own hatred and let's get on with the business of genealogy. Gerry Perry in good old USA and searching for my SCOTTISH roots in good old CANADA :-) > ----- Original Message
4. [Can-Ont-Lanark] Re: [LKS] Re: [Renfrew] Greenock Cemetery [1]
Janelle, Most of my ancestors came from Scotland to Canada and I really object your tirade. Mine came for a better life, not for the easy money that you suggest, They worked hard so their children would have a better life than they had. None of them were rich, but they were better off than had they stayed in Scotland. Most of them were hand loom weavers & spinners, and were left out of work when the Industrial Revolution took place. Hi List, I guess it is a good thing that diatribe was on this list. Several others I belong to would censure or remove someone for that kind of flaming. Wow! It must have been a bad day. By the by, Grennock is not that far away from where I live - in Ontario. Regards, Gord

8. Re: [CAN-ONT-LANARK] Name of lake near Middleville [1]
Hello Marianne: The lake closest to Herron's Mills would be "Kerr Lake" which is an enlargement of the Clyde River at that point. The lake directly north of Kerr Lake is Gillies Lake. Happy Holidays and if you need a bit of fresh Canadian snow to cool things off, we have a superfluous amount at present. Peter E. 9. [CAN-ONT-LANARK] Name of lake near Middleville [1]
Hi All I am trying to name a lake near Herrons Mill. Matching 'google maps' map and satellite images it is near the junction of Route 511 and Herron Mills Road. Can you also tell me the name of Route 511, if it has a name? Best wishes for the new year. May all your ancestral brick walls crumble Cheers Marianne Melbourne Australia
10. Re: [CAN-ONT-LANARK] Name of lake near Middleville [1]
Hello Anne Thank you for the map references. They did not help me with the lake but they are fantastic for locating the communities I so often see mentioned. Having minimal (ie no) knowledge of Canadian geography or history until two years ago I am on a steep and very enjoyable learning curve. Cheers Marianne > Hi Marianne > Route 511, as far as I know, is one of those roads that has different names > at different points. 11. Re: [CAN-ONT-LANARK] Name of lake near Middleville [1]
Hi Marianne Route 511, as far as I know, is one of those roads that has different names at different points. For instance, near Calabogie it is known as the Lanark Road (as it takes you to Lanark, but when it goes through Lanark, it is George Street (zoom in on your Google map and you will see the different names). As for the lake you are talking about, I am sending you a link to a road map put out by the Government of Ontario, so you can locat your lake. There are several around Midleville, so I don't k

Hi Marianne I neglected to mention that Middleville on the first map I sent is in the N32 quadrant of the maps (bottom left corner of N32). Hope this helps. I see another kind fellow has given the name of Kerr Lake, so perhaps that is the one you are looking for. Ann, nr. After visiting the vendors market today, I second Malcolm's comments. Btw I stopped at your booth but must have missed you. One thing that is interesting is the wide range of material available. Picked up a few 'finds', well worth the trip. Lots of free parking, and the vendor area is air-conditioned Larry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Malcolm Moody" To: "NewsList Lanark" Sent: Saturday, June 02, 2007 8:26 PM Subject: Re: [CAN-ONT-LANA

If you'll excuse a further word of clarification. The Seminar is taking place on the campus of Algonquin College which is sited on Woodrofe Ave. just south of Baseline at the easternmost limits of Nepean. The vendors market place is in the gym (the floor IS covered!) and will run from 09:15 am to 2:15 pm. Once you get near there are signs all over the place directing you to parking, and then to the marketplace. This is THE largest of the many Ontario Family History shows held annually and is a
20. [CAN-ONT-LANARK] Emma Ryan [1]
Further to my first post regarding Emma Ryan, I found an Emma Ryan that married a Reuben McEwen in Smiths Falls in 1906. Her age is stated as 20. This Emma is Bridget Emily Ryan, daughter of Patrick Ryan and Margaret Jackman. In the previous post, her age was stated as 26. I think they might be the same Emma - perhaps the zero in 20 was misread as a six. If anyone has heard of an Emma Ryan, not the daughter of Patrick & Margaret, I would be most interested in hearing more. Thanks again. Joan __
