Thanks, Charles. The good news from your message is that the Toronto Library
people are aware they have it in their collection after all these years,
which means it's still in safe hands.
I hope that Lanarkite descendants will read it onsite. It's a contribution
to understanding the period and the circumstances of the people who came to
the area in 1820-21, and later as well. And one has to think that the son
and father, four thousand miles apart, never saw each other again.....

Dear Listers:
The announcement of these new mailing lists for BC, is done with the kind
approval of the Administrator of the SCOTS-IN-CANADA and the CAN-ONT-LANARK
Rootsweb mailing lists.
When discussions take place on major migration routes and the destinations
of many pioneer Canadians, we consider the route across Northern Ontario,
across the prairies and across the Rockies as a major land route; and of
course by sea and rail.
Up until now there have not been Regional Mailing Lists available coveri
I am seeking information on the couple below:
Thomas COGHLIN & Jane Ballantine married October 28, 1854 Parents:
John Coglin and Mary Magher; Duncan Ballantine and Margaret (or Mary)
Hannah
Marriage performed by Father John MacDonald, [Roman Catholic] priest at
Perth, Bathurst District
Where did they live after their marriage? What children were born?
Jane appears to be the 14 year old child on the 1851 Census with her
parents in Lanark, Lanark, Ontario. After that I have not found them.
Any help
Good morning -
If you were planning to attend the April 8 meeting of Kingston Branch OGS to hear eminent Scottish genealogist Bill Lawson, please note that we have been advised by his wife that they are unable, for health reasons, to make their visit at this time. An alternate programme will be arranged, and we will be pleased to welcome visitors.
Apologies to those who receive multiple copies of this notice.

That's the one Max. I had it all ready to go on the LCGS website but
then couldn't get permission from the library to publish it as they
were worried about copyright issues. I finally received an email
giving me permission but by that time I was no longer webmeister of
the website so it gradually was forgotten. Discovered it recently on
an old backup CD.
Cheers, Chas.

Hi Sheila,
I'm not researching Coghlin or Ballantine but Bremner is a side line I've
been checking out.
Look on the Lanark website at http://www.rootsweb.com/~onlanark/ under
Pioneer Families. Isabella Bremner, dau of Charles Bremner and Catherine
Marshall married Duncan Ballantine about 1861 in Huron County. I have this
Duncan as the son of Duncan Ballantine and Margaret (Unknown).
That's all I have.
Good luck with this.

Hello listers,
I've just put on a journal written by John McFarlane who sailed from
Scotland to Canada in 1821. It is the account of the journey to
Canada up to the time they built their log house near Lanark Village.
The letter is one written to John in 1829 by his father who was left
behind in Scotland.
and it's the first
"Latest Additions" link.

Great going, Charlie! I assume this the one which (the original) ended up in
the special collections at the main Toronto Public Library some decades ago?
And the letter's actually one from his father back in Glasgow?
