Hello all, just made a discovery that to me is stunning, probably not to
anybody else. Those social security records are not always accurate. I
have returned from a trip to Yuma, Arizona, for a family birthday party.
Of course I made time for a visit to the library, cemetery, and the
mortuary, which kindly shared its records with me.
Just now I started putting in the mortuary/obituary/grave marker names
and dates into my genealogy program. Guess what. They don't match with
what I already have from social s

Hi, this is an old query, but thought I'd answer it anyway. I take it you've
called and the phone is a disconnect?
There is a listing of obituaries in Orange County you could try. It's at this
site, but I sort of forget how you get to it. hmm, think you go to community
news. Maybe somebody on the CAOrange list can help get you the rest of the way.

Folks, I have just subscribed to GEN-MARKET-M@Rootsweb.com
I subscribed because PLM picked up a book for sale that included Bloyds.
I just wanted to tell you that is it really neat, if you can deal with
getting numerous books-for-sale messages. I really have to restrain
myself. Want to buy every one.
However something really interesting is on that list that I thought you
might like to know. A number of the notices refer to auctions on ebay.
Since I have visited Ebay looking for genealogical books and been
Hi all, some time back I asked for people who would be willing to take
over the Orange County list. I got tied up with Christmas and back to
back cases of the flu (I have a sinus-throat-ear infection still) and
just put it all to one side. Now, however, I think is the time to
finalize those plans. If anybody is interested in taking over this list,
would they please email me? I will try to make the decision in the next
week.

Janet, do you live in Orange CO. CA? Was the name you gave in your message
your Mother's maiden or married name? Did you get this name from the CA

Was the adoption a private one or done through the county agency or a
private agency like Children's Home Society?
Are you trying to find her specifically or just info abou

Treat the brothers and sisters of your ancestor as equalseven if
some of them were in jail.
2. Death certificates are rarely filled in by the person who died.
3. When visiting a funeral home, wear old clothes, no make-up, and
look like you have about a week to livethe funeral director will give
you anything you ask for if he thinks you may be a customer soon.
4. The cemetery where your ancestor was buried does not have perpetual
care, has no office, is accessible only by a muddy road, has snakes,

I think the LA Times only goes back to the mid 1800's. Have you checked the
1880 census? Good place to get a clue as to where they were. There are
very few if any records in CA going back that far. Earliest records are
Catholic Church records, not civil.

Hello all, I have been doing a little reading on Thomas Jefferson and
Sally Hemings, and came across this fine example of a listing of
sources. It comes from the Report of the Research Committee on Thomas
Jefferson and Sally Hemings, Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation,
January 2000. (I have included only a portion of each set of sources,
since this is an example, not a review of the Jefferson-Hemings
materials.)
I think this illustrates the difference between primary and secondary
sources nicely. A pr
Vikki, I am forwarding this to the Orange County list. Hopefully
somebody there can help you. CAGENWEB is a list for California Genweb
County Coordinators. We don't "do" genealogy on this list; it's where we
hash out all our problems. I suspect somebody has already written you to
this effect.
