There is a John, William, Thomas, Elizabeth, and Mary entering 1739 into
Maryland, VA, and America. Could be the same people. For some reason I have
seen people listed more than once. London was most likely the port of
departure. America could mean anywhere.
There is a book Bonded Passengers to America by Peter Wilson Coldham that
list these people. It is by Genealogical Pub Co 1983. There are 9 volumns but
I think they have been condensed. It may give you more info since these

I looked in Dobson's book Directory of Scots in the Carolinas 1680-1830 and
there are no Davis's mentioned. That means nothing, just that he didn't
record them or they were not Scots. There was a large group that arrived in
1739 into Cape Fear with Scotland and England passengers. I will see if I can
pull anything on Davis.

My GGGrandmother was Margaret McKinnon married John Wilkerson in North Carolina. Had 2 children born in NC. Archie and Ann...Would there be any Wilkersons on that list?
Thanks, Dee, for the tip on the SC Archives. I've been at this for years
and only recently realized that SC & NC was one area at one time. While
researching the McKinnons, I found my
WILLIS family very near and this was a family that I thought was from the
Pee Dee area of
SC and around Lumberton, NC. I guess I better get into the SC Archives and
see what I can find.
Another one of the problems I have found, especially with my DAVID McKinnon,
b 1805, is the fact that many have transcribed the name
To those of you researching the Sinclairs... when I was growing up, we
always pronounced the name Sin -'clair with the accent on the second
syllable. Only recently a lady from Scotland said they pronounced it
'Sink- ler over there with the accent on the first syllable. Just food for
thought.
My MacLeods... John & brother Alexander , both came into Wilmington ca.
1774/1775 and I've found men with this name on the early Cumberland census,
but have no idea if they are my MacLeods or not. There were
My John and Nancy had the following children- John C., Christian, Duncan M., Peter & possibly Archibald. I haven't done as much research on his siblings as some other cousins but I will ask one of them.

PETER SINCLAIR is in the 1790 Cumberland Co. census, I believe.
Check it out. Wherever I saw him, he was in close proximity to
my McKinnons. Sandra

Dee, Thank you very kindly for taking the time to list the McKinnons for
me. Yes,
for sure, it will be helpful in my research. I take each known family and
try to track
them. A determination of one's ancestors sometimes requires the "process of
elimination" and with the McKinnons, a whole lot of "elimination" is
sometimes necessary.
What was the original source of the information found in this book?

I am so happy to see some Sinclair activity on the list and would love to
exchange any information that we Sinclairs might have. My Peter Sinclair came
from Scotland to Moore County, N.C. I know know exactly when he came, but he
is included in the census of 1810. There is a possibility that he was a son
of John Sinclair and Mary Sinclair who came to Wilmington, N.C. on the
Ulysses in 1774, but this has not been proven. Or he may have been the son of
Duncan Sinclair... no further information.
I believe John, William and Thomas Davis came together, They went to Edgecombe I believe to work off their passage. Would like to know port of departure also. Thanks
