1. Re: Grace ___ Busby from Statia [1]
Most of what you are describing in terms of cuisine is just as equally Scandinavian. Most of what is considered Jewish cooking in New York City is the same food that their Catholic and Orthodox neighbors were eating in Europe. In fact most of those Jews where Grace Busby was born were Sephardic and as such they would have had their own Sephardic food preferences. My grandmother probably had the greatest knowledge and she only surmised. Some of our relatives were Jewish by faith and by descent. Other r
2. Re: Nutmeg - History - Grenada British Empire Sir Joseph Banks et al. [1]
I found the nutmeg discussion interesting. As far as I know I have no relatives in Grenada, but I was there for my honeymoon a thousand years ago and saw the nutmeg trees on the way across the island from the old airport, Pearles I think. Each winter the urge to go back and visit the Carribean becomes stronger. This time we'll make it to Jamaica to see where my grandfather was born. 5. Grenada bagatelle [1]
A bit of a bagatelle for some of you interested in Hugues and the rebellions occurring across the Caribbean in his wake. This is taken from the pages of a book by Dr. John Hay of Grenada who was one of Fedons 3 prisoners that were spared. The book only exists in a few chosen libraries - one in Grenada (photocopy), British Library and somewhere in the US (heaven knows I forgot as Ive been trying to find this book for about 7 years). Fascinating account by a man trusted by the rebels and by his count

There could also be a Bengali name that sounds close enough to be rendered Busby by English-speakers.

Dear Sara, Since you are a beginner in all this, why not research the sources that the pros on the list are generously giving you. Trust us, most of the African slaves from the 1600-1800s came from WEST AFRICA. Alex Haley was just one man who found his roots. But his roots are just that, his. There are a lot of other roots to research. Of course, there were slaves throughout the history of the world from other countries, so there is much research to be done. Check out these sites for a beginning

Hi, Chris... Long time, buddy. I went to Bimshire in September '02 with my new Significant Other and I remembered our own trip together to Barbados and Antigua way back when. Seems like centuries ago!! I rented a car in Antigua and did the tour, so we passed many of those places again - no special flight this time, though!! The Barbados tour was more leisurely, but there were many of the same places - like St. John's Church with that Greek royalty chappie, etc. Great view out over the east coast, to

Hi Nevilla, I do not have anything to add except to make an observation. A name like Turobunsingh is likely to break apart under pressure of Anglicization or Creolization into two names either T.
