12. HAUGHTON, Rowland St. Michaels Parish ,Barbados 1600's [1]
Looking for information on the HAUGHTON family of St. Michaels Parish, Barbados. Rowland HAUGHTON's will, dated 1691, mentions Paul CARRINGTON (presumably his son-in-law, the husband of Sarah HAUGHTON) and John and Mary GUBBINS, his in- laws. Is there any information on Rowland's parents? There was a Rowland Houghton (many variations on the spelling) who died in Jamaica in the 1660's. Is this the same family? Any clues about the origins of the HAUGHTON name? Many thanks. M.K. Perry

17. Re: haughton court - lucea, jamaica [1]
Sally's letter about the "Use of this Newsgroup" has given me some incentive to reply to queries in the newsgroup. Sometimes I do nothing as I assume there are people who know a lot more than I do. In Inez Sibley's "Dictionary of Place Names in Jamaica" she states that HAUGHTON COURT is near the town of Lucea in Hanover. It was previously known as Unity Estate and is named after two brothers, Jonathan and Valentine Haughton, who came from Barbados in 1670 and settled there.Jonathan died there in 1767 age

The New Orleans branch of my family has, as their grandmother, Gabrielle Doens-Beaufond from Martinique, who died in the 1930's. We have a good knowledge of the history of the Doens-Beaufond family down to roughly 1890 or 1900. We recently discovered that members of the Martinique branch of the family were still in communication with their New Orleans relatives in the 1910's and 20's, and in fact occasionally sent them products from one of their estates, perhaps the one they owned the longest, which was l
