Carol, et al: All in all, I hope there will not be a detrimental effect on this list and will continue to stand by - but my parachute is at hand. Regards, -- Thomas Langford I am listening and taking into consideration *everything* everyone is saying. FYI: the "vote" is evenly divided. That means that just as many people are in favor of the gateway as there are against it. I also note that those in favor are not regular "posters" to this list, but tend to post more to the soc.genealogy.west-ind

Good Morning Folks; Following my message to soc.genealogy.west-indies, I have had several letters regarding the "Caribbean Historical & Genealogical Journal, so thought I would post my reply to the List as well as to the individuals who did write to me. Any member who may own a Dictionary of National Biography(some such) or a work on Colonial personages in Jamaica...I am trying to find out abit of information on a Jasper Hall esq of Otterborn Hexham and Jamaica who was active in the Jamaican Assembly and was at one time I beleive Speaker. He was active between 1770'-1800 or thereabouts. He owned plantations in St. Thomas, St. Andrews and other locations I'm not sure about. Victoria, Please vote on this. Everyone needs to vote or this will be decided by others. I just can't keep track of email votes (unless someone's browser don't support forms on the vote page...then, I'll just transfer the "vote" to the vote page). I have an unbelieveably high volume of email, and trying to sort through it to keep track of votes is very difficult for me. So, please vote on this formally at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~caribgw/vote.htm Carol A. Haagensen +-74/`7-.,_,.-74/0:$:00:$:0/`7-.,_,

10. Re: [CARIBBEAN-L] Sedgwick - Jamaica [1]
Hi AmyAnn, I found reference to a company of Captain Sedgwick of Col Humphries Regiment of Foot in a list of wills in the PCC in Caribbeana.(Not Sedgwick will). This is probably in the Army of Penn and Venables who captured Jamaica from the Spanish in 1655. If there are any records of him they would be in the Army records of England in the PRO of this time. The island was not really populated with many others than soldiers up to 1660 when the British drove the last of the Spanish out, so how the British

13. [CARIBBEAN-L] roll call? missed transmission [1]
Hi sorry folks, a diligent mate elimated any notes pertaining to a "roll Call" on the list...please explain. Thanks cmc < Researching "Codrington, King, Collins, Gilliat, Franklyn, Morris, Hall, Tyrrell, Painter, and Panton. Regions: British West Indies: Barbados, Antigua, and eastern parishes of Jamaica. 14. [CARIBBEAN-L] Island of Providence [1]
I do not question the information posted on the Island of Providence. What I am wanting to know is this: According to history, the island was first charted in 1627 under the name Santa Catalina, if this were indeed the island, wouldn't the ship have set sail for Santa Catalina, not the Island of Providence? What references tell you this is in fact the same island? I don't understand what tells you this is in fact the island the Expectation sailed to. Could you site your references, please. Most appr
15. [CARIBBEAN-L] Sedgwick - Jamaica [1]
does anyone have any information on Robert Sedgwick, commissioner to Jamaica after the British took over the Island. He is said to have died in Jamaica of fever in 1656. Where could I find out more on this man. Did he own land in Jamaica and was his family with him? During this time how were the British received in Jamaica? What was the position of "commissioner"? Thanks AmyAnn Still looking for Carothers and Massey in the West Indies as well.

17. [CARIBBEAN-L] BARBADOS Baptisms [1]
Good Afternoon; I have listed below some baptism records for Christ Church, Barbados that I obtained while working on my Weatherill one-name study. After finding listings in the IGI for the West Indies, I worked through the films of the records to double check the data. Where I had a Weatherill (and spelling variation) listing, I copied the page. The list below is from those printouts. Hopefully they might be of interest to list members. Cheers, David ------------------------Record List----------------

No doubt most subscribers to this Caribbean genealogy list already know of Vaughn Royal's excellent and helpful WEST INDIES SURNAME INTEREST LIST, which has put many of us in touch with each other, in connection with this or that specific surname of mutual interest. For those of you who may still be 'in the dark' I urge you to go to http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/vroyal/homepage.htm and do some reading. Dear Julie, Sorry it's taken me so long to respond to your first e-mail asking me if I was familiar with the names of Carver, Murray, and Townsend. I am not. In response to your e-mail below, since I live in Salt Lake City and the films are readily available here I will look up the names you have requested. Do you want a photocopy or is it okay if I just transcribe it for you? I will try to go this week if I can get unpacked and settled from my trip. Robin Downie Julie and Peter Carver wrote: > Hell

In the mid-1800's it was owned by Francis Glasse. Any assistance would be appreciated. Catherine Adams
