He and his wife Frances Elizabeth Richardson had six children: John Jeff, b:1857; Mary S., b: June 1864; George W., b: June 1867; Joseph C., b: June 1873; James R., b: 12 May 1874; and Noah Z. b: 12 May 1877. John and Frances were living in Greene Co., Arkansas in 1860 when the census was taken. In 1870 they were in Walker Co. Georgia, and in 1880

Carpenter, b. 22-2-1801, Pittstown, Rennsalaer co NY, to Jeremiah, b. 28-8-1760, Dutchess Co NY to Timothy and Elizabeth Anderson Carpenter. Jeremiah m. Jane Shears. George W. Sr, m. I just found this in a list of graves which I believe to be unpublished. Israel S. Carpenter b. 17 March 1863 d. 16 December 1903, "Native of Chautaugua, NY" I was checking this list because some of my Oregon ancestors who are descended from Moses Carpenter d. 1829 Onondaga Co., NY were in Chautaqua Co. Hello, list, I am revising a previous post on Leander J. Carpenter and his family, as I have found out more. Leander's parents were Royal Carpenter b. 16 Nov 1800 and Temperance Ayres, b. 30 June 1810 in Sussex Co., NJ. They were married in 1832 (don't know where) and lived first in Ohio and then to Wisconsin, buying 40 acres near Darlington, Lafayette Co. I am searching for information regarding FREDERICK CARPENTER (and his wife MARGERY WILDER) who were from the Canisteo area. Frederick, my grandfather, was born sometime in the 1890s and worked for the railroad. He married MARGERY WILDER in the early years of 1900. My father, Harold Frederick Carpenter, was born in 1908. Sorry, I neglected to say that Israel S. Carpenter was buried in the Gardiner, Oregon, (Douglas Co.) cemetary and there are no other Carpenters buried there. My guess, is that because he was so young that he was a single man, of course, his widow could have remarried or moved away. Phoebe

George W. Carpenter, listed in the 1898 Ogle book of South Dakota representative citizens as "General George W. Carpenter", was born in Erie County, New York son of George W. Carpenter and grandson of Jeremiah Carpenter. He served in 116th New York as a major but was quartermaster general of South Dakota. After the war, he moved to Fillmore Co. MN and then was a pioneer in Watertown, South Dakota (Codington County). Is anyone working on his line???
