My Carpenter ancestor was living in Upson Co., GA and was on the 1850 Upson Co. GA. They did not appear in the book because the census index that was published placed them in another Co., So they could not be found by Carpenter when he did his book. (He told me so.) I located my ancestor by using family tradition that said they lived in Upson Co., GA. Horace Gordon Carpenter was born in Ross on Why in Herefordshire on the 13th august 1924 he died9th june 1997, For the first part of his working life he was in the air force, later on he joined the police force. Dear Folks, My name is Robert C. Carpenter. I am the author of Carpenters A Plenty. It details a Zimmerman family which originated in Switzerland, the Alsace, then Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and finally to the Lincoln County, North Carolina area. The family changed their name to Carpenter in NC. It is indeed a thick book and I do not encourage anyone to purchase the book without finding out whether your family is included or not.
