I, too, am descended from Thomas and his crazy wife Martha Allen (of Salem witches fame)! One of my genealogy buddies has an uncle who supposedly signed the order for the King to be beheaded. His name was Theophilus Whaley. She has not been able to find definite proof of this. Thomas Carrier, according to her sources, was the fellow who was directly behind the King at the time of the giving of the order and supposedly the one who did him in. Anyone no for sure how the King was killed? Garroted
3. Re: [CARRIER] Carriers & the Queen [1]
Like we both said, stories about Thomas are mere speculation. I do wish I knew his background, and even if your Carrier is related. All the Carriers in the UK are bound to be related, owing to the small number of them. Give his hyphenated name, it is my own personal hypothesis that Morgan was an adopted name, or he would have kept it in the US. (Of course this may not be altogether true - it is just my theory) And obviously the name Carrier had to come from somewhere. Mother may have been Morgan, Fa
4. Re: [CARRIER] Re: Looking for other Carriers to email [1]
Are you at all related through your line to any Carriers in the US? This is the first I have heard about any Carriers in the UK being related to the Queen... There is some speculation as to where Thomas Carrier comes from, just wondering if there is a connection. Unfortunately not all US Carriers come from Thomas -- there are a lot from a French-Canadian line. Nicole

No fair arguing, I'm not sure which line my Carriers come from, so far I have only been able to go back as far as Jacob Carrier b. 1798 in Pennsylvania, married Sarah Stephens. Answer to my own question on death of Charles I...... It was then resolved by the Commons that the king should he tried as guilty of treason in making war on his parliament, and a special High Court of Justice was constituted for the occasion. The trial took place in Westminster Hall, in January 1649. The king was condemned to death, and on the 30th of January beheaded at Whitehall; his last word to bishop Juxon being a charge to him to admonish Prince Charles to forgive his father's murderers. dear Neal it's a long story so I'll give a summary and would be happy to share more details (why isn't there a Carrier roots website where we can share files & notes?) My family is from Staffordshire in England, with some variants in the landed gentry recorded in 1640s in Derbyshire (not far from Staffordshire) in the town of Wirksworth. (Sir Christopher Gent, current CEO of Vodafone in UK, is a likely descendant). Around late 1700s the family had a daughter called Elizabeth Carrier who married William An

I do say this is the first I have ever heard of this connection, and it is most interesting to ponder over. I don't know how familiar you are with the various stories going around about Thomas before he got to the US. My own family story states that he was the royal bodyguard and executioner of Charles I, and escaped capture when he sailed to Nova Scotia and thence walked from NS to Massachusetts. Noone has ever been able to trace Thomas origins. Thomas' surname was "Morgan-Carrier" but again we do no

23. [CARRIER] Gilmore CARRIER [1]
Dear List, A type written note has the following information: Gilmore CARRIER and wife, whose last name was OWENS. He was born in 1826 and died in 1911. He was a doctor and also made violins. Does anyone have more information on Gilmore and family? Other info in this note is known to be incorrect so I don't know how much if any of the above is true. The original note is undated and unsigned. Any leads appreciated. Katheryn Carrier --ab962@tcnet.org--

Katheryn, This is the info I have on Gilmore: Son of Jesse & Polly Stedman Carrier. Jesse's ancestors Amariah, Amos?, Richard, Thomas. Gilmore & Jane had a son Jeduthan or Judson N. who married Amanda E. Stevenson. Gilmore was a doctor and lived in Detroit. It looks like Jesse was born near Albany NY and the family ended up in Indiana. Hope this helps. Neal Carrier On Wed, 4 Jun 2003 11:27:04 -0400 (EDT) "Katheryn A.
