1. Re: [CASANFRA] 1880 U.S. Census [1]
Hey Ron, I didn't know all this. I've rarely used the Family History centers and have almost always just looked up in the federal microfilms. (Plus, we've been abstracting the information in the hopes of one day transcribing them! ) But, you're right. The info provided at the familysearch.org census site meant little or nothing to me before your email. Thanks! 2. [CASANFRA] Location of marriages in CA [1]
Apparently CA laws and many other states, have allowed people to obtain a license in one county and be married in another... however, the signed marriage affidavit must be returned and recorded at the location of the issued license. That is why it is important to try and always get the original application... they usually tell more. Ken Goldsberry

Thanks Bill - Great shot! Can I ask what your source is? That would have been a great ride. The chutes on Fulton burned down on May 29, 1911 (not 1910 as i said before). It started with a kitchen fire. Same as the Cliff House in 1907. Your site's still top notch. You do a great job keeping it growing. 6. [CASANFRA] Marriage LICENSE index [1]
Sorry, but the following message had the wrong subject line. I know there is no marriage index for 1930. I notice that George Rushton just mentioned consulting a marriage license index in San Francisco for someone. I wonder if George or someone else would be kind enough to check the marriage license index for San Francisco for my paarents: Margaret Cyrilla Kilgannon lived at 141 Julian St. and Herbert William Carstensen lived at 447 Valencia St when the 1930 census was taken in April 1930. Date of Marri
7. Re: [CASANFRA] Missing Records [1]
No, Ron, I did find many records in the basement of the Treasurer's Office at City Hall in the 1970s. There were account books and ledgers dating back to the early 1850s. Gladys did not know about them until I called her. She came over to the basement and they went off to the City Archives at the library. I also found all of the bonds issued by the city from 1850. McDougal, the city treasurer in 1906 loaded them into a wagon and saved them. After the present city hall was build in 1915 they went into

13. RE: [CASANFRA] TRIVIA- Just for fun! [1]
Good stuff you two - fun and very interesting. Now another (sorta personal). How many people on the SF List have met cousins - several... at least. BUT.... how many on the SF list have met someone who was their roommate over 70 years ago? Ray Spellacy, who is a few days older than I am , my sister and I were roommates at St. Mary's Hospital, Hayes Street, SF, in the new born nursery at St. Mary's. True! Ray says it was a vintage year! I bet he's changed a bit - but I can't remember what he looked

Fun trivia - it begs the question... What were other great San Francisco firsts? A couple of items to kick it off: First municipally owned railway (Muni) First Cables Cars (a freebee) Invention of television (Farnsworth on Green Street) First Structural Steel Building???? Can't recall for sure. Ron, That's great! I found others on the Sunsite & SFHC's photo collection but this one tops all. I would love to have that piece of music. Guess I'll need to keep an eye peeled. I've found some great music on eBay. Thanks! 19. [CASANFRA] Old Photos & Surname Lookup [1]
I recently found a photo collection that belonged to my parents, and many of the photos are of local military sites during WW II, i.e. East Garrison, Camp Hydle, and Fleischaker Park, where my father's unit underwent training. Is anyone aware of a local military museum that might appreciate having this collection? In addition, would someone do a quick lookup for me in the SF Directory? I found a tinted military portrait with the signature of a Johnny Ginocchio and I'd like to see if there are any relativ

23. [CASANFRA] 1880 U.S. Census [1]
1880 CENSUS As some may know, the LDS has an 1880 index online: http://www.familysearch.org Although I have heard that some researchers have found errors, I have found it to be an excellent FREE source. :-) But, like any good researcher (and everyone on this list is a GOOD researcher, right?), I usually want to see a copy of the actual document. An example of the source citation they give is: Source Information: Census Place San Francisco, San Francisco, California Family History Library Film
