Hi,
When someone wants a Land Look up, could you let them know, to put that in
caps in the subject? I almost missed this new one. Thank you soo, much.

I was just reminded of this site and can't remember if it had ever been posted. I came across this one quite a while ago while researching my husband's ancestor, Horace Williams. This lists quite a few names from the area.

Well that sounds just like Deschutes Road. I'm on Millville Plains Road, and
this is a common "backroad" for people to take to get from
Millville/Whitmore to Anderson. I'm really familiar with the route, but just
can't imagine where the town would have been located. On the other hand,
there was a fort right there on Dersch, and it is just a cow field now...
not so much as a scrap of timber.

I sent for my Greatgrandfather's John CHRISTENSEN'S land records and just
received them back today. Some months ago we discussed where Cow Creek was
located, because he still has a living daughter and all she can remember is
Cow Creek!
John's witness' were H.J. KAH, P.W. Arnold, J.W. CONLAN, J.J. KELLY, all from
Leighton. In these land records it had to be proven that John had lived on
the premises. It was ag. land, At one point someone had mispelled his last
name doing a sOn instead of sEn. So, just
Hi all,
I just found some information on Marshall Mitchell of Redding. He was a
Marshal (yes, Marshal Marshall Mitchell) in Redding, first elected in 1885
and serving for many years. He was reported to come with his father when he
was about 11 in 1859. His father was named Isaac Mitchell and the family
had 7 children, I think I know the names of 4 of them. This is what I think
I know:

Hi I'm new to this list. I belong to several others where I have gotten
good information and decided since I live in Shasta County that maybe I
should sign up and try to help on this one. Unfortunately even though I
have lived here for 20 years I am still pretty much a "newcomer." I wasn't
in on the Cow Creek discussion but I do know where it is. I have to drive
along it every time I make the drive from my home in Burney down the
mountain to Redding, which is the commercial hub of Shasta County.

Hi again,
It sounded like a nice place.
One of the questions on the Homestead Proof--Testimony of Witness, How much
of the homestead has the settler cultivated and for how many seasons did he
raise crops thereon?
Ans. About 50 acres. About 4 seasons.
Question: What improvements are on the land and what is their value? Fence,
house, barn, well, orchards, vineyards and about 15 acres of cleared land.
Value about $3000.00.
Another question: For what period or periods has the settler been absent from

I went to the old map of 1895, and it looks like Leighton was just below
Redding, perhaps in the same area as Pala Cedro. Leighton was where John's
Post Office was.

Hi,
In case you haven't been to this link it is great for old maps.

What time period are you looking at. Many towns in Shasta County have had
different names and some towns are under water from man made lakes being
created. If you can give me a time period I will be glad to check our local
library here in Shasta County and see what I can find for you.

Is anyone in Shasta County researching the HUDSON line? I am particularly
interested in confirming the name of his wife. He was born ca 1818 and I
believe his wife to be a Mary C. PINER.
Would be happy to share what I have on this family.

Any Hensel Researchers out there? I am researching some different branches
of my Hensel family and believe that there may be a Shasta Co., CA
connection. I would appreciate any help proving or disproving the
connection between the following individuals. My evidence is pretty weak so
far.
On the Social Security Death Index, there is the following entry:

Shasta, CA) (No Location Given) 543-05-7867 Issued: Oregon (Before 1951)

Hi,
I went and looked at the map again, there is an old road that goes from
Balls Ferry (where the ferry used to be) just outside Anderson, to back
across the country to where palaCedro comes out, that looks like the area
it could be. Nice farming area.
