When I worked at the Catawba County Library in Newton I composed a list of
the newspapers published in Catawba County.
In the event folks on this list haven't seen it, please check:

Can you tell me ~~as soon as the addresses and so forth are worked
out~~~~where to send money to help those families out? It seems to me they've been
through too much, just getting home from a War they didn't want to be in, in the
1st place, and then to lose their homes. Man, that's a bit much and its not
bad enough to have to deal with all their post traumatic problems, getting
settled again with living like a human being again, Thanksgiving and Christmas
coming, and now this.
Want to help out. T
One of our first settlers was from Peterlingen.
Can someone remember who it was?
On a hand-written deed or record at the North Carolina Archives is a mention of _________ from Peterlingen.
I would be grateful for any help. Anne

Hi Shirley,
Here's all I can provide.

Appears in 1840 census of Lincoln County. Absolum and family appear in the

I have the estate papers for Solomon Filo Huffman who died without a will.
Solomon is buried at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church beside his first wife Amanda

administer the estate to M. M. Holler who is the brother to Amanda. Her statement
is dated June 30th 1896.
Here is a list of names that appear in the estate papers: Huffman, Smyre,
Link, Hunsucker, Shell, Holler, Yount, Herman, Summerrow, Rockett, McCorkle,

first names and items purchased if you would like to have the information.
Surnames: Holler, Taylor, Haun, Miller, Punch, Bollinger, Simmons, Yount,

Hi Jan, friends,
I'm from Conover and I had an aquaintanceship with Neal. He had a
diner/luncheonette in Vale. His death came as a real shock to me--and to the
Western North Carolina genealogical community.
Among researchers in this area, I would have to say that Neal lived his
heritage as much as he loved it. He contributed to local genealogical
knowledge with his research and his genealogical books and CDs. He earned
every cent that he received, lest anyone cast aspersions on
paid-genealogical folk. I b
I posed this question:
I think I have an answer:
Absolom BOLCH was the son of John BOLCH. Absolom died about 1842. He was
married to a Sarah. They had a son William. Sarah and William are living
with John in the 1850 census.
So now I have to change the question:

Just to let all of you know we made it through our 6th hurricane in the seven and a half years we have lived here. I got a mess to clean up in the yard but we are fortunate. We were on the east side of it this time. The winds weren't as bad. The rain was not as bad either.
A lot of folks in the southern parts of the county, Harlowe, were not so fortunate. They lost homes from flooding. Many of these homes belonged to Marines that had just returned from Iraq.
When we first moved here, I wanted to get nea

In the Lincoln Co. estate settlements at the state archives in Raleigh, the
folder for "George DEAL 1817" includes the following information: his widow
is Elizabeth. The administrators are Peter LITTLE and William DEAL. Money
was owed to "widow ROSAMON" and also to "John DEAL and his wife Rosina DEAL".
Is this George DEAL a son of the immigrant Wilhelm DIEHL?? Was the wife
Elizabeth also a ROSEMAN?
Your thoughts appreciated.
