1. [CHS] Father's details on Marriage Certificate [1]
Hello, I have found a marriage certificate which does not give any details about the brides father. Does this mean that that she did not know who her father was, or could there be some more innocent explanation? Is it a requirement to give these details where known, or is it optional? The certificate in question is from 1912. Thanks in advance, Colin.

Hi, I know I am in the wrong county but I am sure someone can help. I have a friend [who is not on the net unfortunately] who is researching the above PRE - 1837 who would like to contact someone who could do some research for him. 3. [CHS] John Carter Family [1]
Hello Listers, With thanks once again to Jen Bernatec, I have now reference numbers for the 1851 census for the Wirral Unfortunately, on Jen's, the place of birth was unreadable for two of the members of the household .i.e.- John's wife Jane (born in Scotland but where?) and John's mother - Gertrude, age 68, born -where? If there is someone making a trip to Chester and you have a bit of spare time to do a look-up for me I would be very grateful and hopefully the record will be readable. Ref. Numb

10. Re: [CHS] Male lines - A different Spin to it [1]
My husband's name is Newbigin and his family mainly comes from Northumberland. He like Susan found they were very few and far between . The Australian branch all descended from one group of siblings who left Alnwick in the 1880's. They have a very colorful history being border raiders , kidnappers and way back a murderer in the 1100's. Recently one of them Fiona, appeared in a feature film with John Goodman, "The Borrowers. " I wanted him to follow the female lines but he only concentrated on

I hope so! I was not aware until very recently that the GRO becomes more and more useful and detailed as time passes during the 20th century. I am posit

15. [CHS] Cheshire BMD records [1]
GlacierI am very appreciative of all the hard work done by members so that these records are available to us drones too far away to help. I just wondered how this enormous job was broached. I come from an old family of Northwich Pattens who peopled Leicester Street and Tabley Road, Northwich in profusion. I find lots of births and marriages, but only four Northwich Patten deaths, all between 1840 and 1905. Does that mean that they are still to be transcribed, or are they lost, or could it have anything to d
16. Re: [CHS] BOTTOMLEY [1]
Dear Roberta, Yes, to make life really helpful for genealogists, Mossley was actually in three counties - Lancashire (mostly), Cheshire (the Micklehurst part) and Yorkshire (the bit round Quick)! If you need any helps with look-ups, go to our website and see what we've got that might be useful. You can find us on: www.tameside.gov.uk/history and follow the links. Small warning - we've a huge queue of queries which we're hoping to sort when we're closed at the beginning of next month, but we will always

19. [CHS] Parish records for Wirral - look ups? [1]
Is there any way of finding out about parish records of marrages and births in Wirral, Oxton? I am looking for a marriage between Thomas Oxton and Margaret. Margaret was born in Oxton, Wirral, and their first child was born in Oxton, baptised Woodchurch in Dec 1830. I would really appreciate a look up! Madeleine Widdowson
20. [CHS] Marrying brothers wife [1]
I believe the issue concerning marrying your brother's wife if religous. Somewhere in the bible it does state that a man shall not lay with his brother's wife (i'm sure the biblical scholars out there can tell us exactly) This was the whole issue behind the Reformation where HenryVIII claimed that his first marriage was null because she was originally the betrothed of his brother Arthur. The Pope didn't buy this scam, so Henry threw a wobbly and setup his own alternative rival church. And how much blood ha

24. Re: [CHS] Re: [ENG-LIV] wirral marriages in liverpool [1]
I didn't think St. Nicholas was a Catholic Church. I have a family marriage there (from the Wirral) and the certificate states the marriage took place "according to the rites and ceremonies of the established church". This would presumably be the C of E. There are a number of marriages at St. Nicholas in the I.G.I and I was unaware that Catholic marriages had been transcribed. Perhaps someone can put me right on this if I have the facts wrong. I have been surprised at the number of out of parish marri
