4. [CHESHIRE-L] New Subscriber - Surname Interests [1]
Hi there, I have just subscribed and wish to submit my research interests in the hope that there might be others out there that can make a connection. I am interested in any information about David Lloyd THOMAS and his decendants. David and his wife Jane (nee JONES) moved from Aberystwyth, Wales to Seacombe in the 1870's. They then moved between there and various places around Liverpool but ended up back on the Cheshire side of the Mersey. Jane and

G'day I've been having a little computer trouble of late - well I have to blame someone! - consequently, I'm reposting this request as I understand the last one went out via HTML format - whoops! Could someone with a bit of local knowledge please tell me in which direction the houses in Astley Street, Dukinfield are numbered? Do the numbers start or finish at Globe Square, and on which side are the even numbers? The 'Godfrey' maps are good but not that good! This is all I require to put some of the ce
6. Re: [CHESHIRE-L] Place name query [1]
Hi Anne, Mobberley is in Cheshire, 24 miles NE of Chester and 12 miles SW of Manchester. Following the A51, A54, A556 and A537 from Chester brings you to Knutsford. Mobberley is on the B5085 betwen Knutsford and Wimslow. Allostock is 21 miles due east of Chester and is on the A50 between Knutsford and Holmes Chapel. I haven't yet located Honbury but will keep looking. Hope this helps. Best wishes David Callaghan, Wirral Researching WOOTTON, GRATWICH, Barlaston & Milwich, Staffs.

17. [CHESHIRE-L] Heaton or Weaton Norris [1]
I have received my first relevant marriage certificate from the GRO. My gggrandfather and gggrandmother (Joseph H. Mottershead and Mary Jackson) were married in the Cathedral at Manchester in 1860 (the Mottershead family is supposed to come from Stockport - still tracking). The address on the certificate is 11 Daniel Street, below that is Heaton or Weaton Norris. I have two questions: 1. Is there generally only one address on the marriage certificate and therefore the Daniel Street and H(W)eaton Norris
18. On Line Records. [1]
Hello to All, I have been visiting other sites and what a joy and surprise, Warwickshire have 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, and 1891 census on Line. I think most of us would like to do our own research given the resource materials. It was very exciting to think that we may one day be able to do all of our research from the comfort of our own home at any time of the day, or night. Cumbria too have a lot of material on line. I was able to download a lot of parish registers which I can go through off line in my own
19. [CHESHIRE-L] P & S [1]
Never come across M & S but suggest the Cosbermonger should actually read Costermonger Which according to the dictionary is "originally a costardmonger i.e. a seller of apples, then an itinerant seller of fruit, vegetables fish etc." and I think usually from a barrow on the market place or house to house. 23. Re: [CHESHIRE-L] Chester Stationers Pt.5 [1]
Hi Neil, Are there lists like this for Manchester. I am particularly interested in the fact that they include Glaziers and there are Holmes in your list. I am a descendant of Obadiah Holmes who removed to Salem, MA ca 1638. He went in to business with Lawrence Southwick and Ananias Conklin in the Glass Making business. Obadiah's father was Robert. We are looking for associations in England before they left for America and this seems to be a likely setting for those associations to occur. The Southwicks wer
