1. [CHESHIRE-L] Regnal Year Calculator [1]
A while back someone was asking for a quick way to figure what 10 Ric. II &c. is in 'real' years. Today I discoverd a neat little on-line utility which does just that. Feed in the regnal year, and up pops Anno Domini!! Isn't modern technology wonderful? http://www.albion.edu/fac/engl/calendar/regnal.htm Regards, Helen BTW It's 1387 : - )
2. [CHESHIRE-L] File organisation the paper kind [0.971396]
It is always very interesting to find out how people organize their filing systems. I would like to tell you about the system I have for non electronic filing. There is always information in 'transit' to you computer and also hard copies or documents that are in use. I use colour coding for my four grand parents and any of their ancestors. The main colours available in Australia are yellow, pink, blue and green. I use the natural / buff colour for my general information. This is a great time sa
3. [CHESHIRE-L] BLEASE - BARKER - BOSTOCK -WILKINSON - LIGHTFOOT [0.971396]
Hello Chris, I saw your name in the Cheshire Index and must email you to see where your family come from. I don't think it matters a great deal as there were not many BLEASE families and a link could take a while to establish further back. However my BLEASE family were Butchers in TARVIN three miles about from Chester. In 1688 JOHN BARKER (from OSCROFT) married MARGARET BETTS and had a daughter MARGARET BARKER who married ROBERT BLEASE in 1715. ROBERT BLEASE who was a butcher by trade, had daughters Margar

7. Re: [CHESHIRE-L] POTTS-Law reports [0.971396]
If you look in the Library of Congress you will find a book on the Potts family privately published in the 19thC. It is divided into two parts. One traces the American side from earliest times. The other traces the various lines in England and Wales. It seems to be quite good on the American side. So far as the Welsh family is concerned you will find an extensive genealogy in the English Reports-the name of the case I believe is Potts v.Potts. The English Reports are law reports in about 900 volumes coverin

15. [CHESHIRE-L] HOLBROOKS in Cheshire [0.971396]
A recent posting fromjcdha@ibm.net expressed interest in HOLBROOKS. I had an aunt, Sarah Jane ASTON, who married Arthur HOLBROOK, son of James HOLBROOK on 19th June 1895. They were married at St.Philip's Church, Chorley (now Alderley Edge) and lived in the next village of Wilmslow. They had 6 children, Elsie, Harry, Robert, Herbert, Frank and Sidney, but I don't know in which order. Hope this is of some use. If anything does tie up, I would be glad of any further details. Betty, you'll find South Street, Openshaw in Manchester. St Barnabus Church is still there facing Dawnay St just off Ashton Old Road. I pass it every day. As you cross the junction of Ashton Old Road and Alan Turing Way going towards Ashton, its on the left hand side facing the College on Whitworth Street. It is old properties and should be covered by the Godfrey Series. It is definitely in current A-Z street indexes of Manchester. ---------- Betty asked.... 22. [CHESHIRE-L] WW1 Losses [0.971396]
G'day All, Reading mail sent to "my" four lists - YKS, WRY, CHS and LAN, I have been most impressed by the emotion shown by many members. A recent one asked the question as to how many (few) people were actually unaffected by the events of the Great War. As a child, during WW11, my mother and I lived with her parents. I recall my father and uncles coming to my grandfather's home when on leave, probably pre-embarkation. The sight of rifles remains in my mind forever because none of my then family had need

25. [CHESHIRE-L] Bradshaws of Stoke/Stoak [0.971396]
Hello all It's been a while since I posted my surnames to the list. I'm interested especially in the BRADSHAW family of Stoak/Stoke near Chester who ran the Bunbury Arms Pub for a long time [I have been there - it's still a good pub] and the families they married into, notably the SPARKS/SPARKES of Barnston [Lancs?], the DENSONS and the BUNNELLS, also possibly the BARKERS and the SHEPHERDS. I've got a fair amount of information on the BRADBURY family who ran collieries in Cheshire, Lancs and Staffs: th
