Greetings!
I was born in the Wirral and lived in Saughall Massie and Hoylake until
1948. I am now resident in Perth, Western Australia.
Does anyone have information about my g-greatuncle,James Frodsham, who was
Master of a sailing vessel from which he was washed overboard off Lisbon in
January 1872? Is anyone else researching the Frodsham family (Frodsham
branch- NOT East Anglian or London branches)?
If so, I'd be glad to hear from them.
Sincerely,
John D. Frodsham

I'm Joanna Wright and I'm researching the Hollingsworth family. My family goes
from ENNIS back to COLWELL (or CALDWELL) to HOLLINGSWORTH (or
HOLLINGWORTH). Valentine Hollingsworth was our ancestor that left the
Ulster Plantation in 1632 to come to America. References refer to his
father, Henry, who left Cheshire and settled in Armagh, Ireland. I would
like to verify the Cheshire connection and continue tracing the line back
from Henry.
My daughter and I are hoping to go to Cheshire next spring. I has b
Many thanks to all of you that responded to my inquiry. I was amazed at
the number of people that took the time to share information. I not
longer feel confused. It is more reassuring using a procedure/source
that has been recommended rather than to guess. I also have a choice in
how I choose to pay and I know who much it will cost.
Thanks ever so much!

Hello everyone
What a great idea, a mailing list for Cheshire. Congratulations.
I have traced my Norbury line from Birkenhead, Liverpool and now
Macclesfield. I have found Thomas Norbury but cannot find his parents. On
the 17th November 1842 the first Police Inspector was appointed at
Macclesfield, Thomas NORBURY.
His wife was Elizabeth RAVENSCROFT who was born in Middlewich.
Unfortunately Thomas died in 1847 - meningitis. One son Thomas Bradford
NORBURY moved to Bromborough where he worked as a boat
Hi there I've recentley gone on line, but have been a member of the FHSC for

St Pancras Old Church London.
When I have organised myself a little more I will submit something more
concrete.
Bye for now.

Hi!
I am new to the group.
I have recently found out that Lawrence Pearson is one of my ancestors. He
was born in Cheshire around 1607. He was married to Elizabeth Janney.
Their son, Thomas, was born in 1653 in Pownall Fee, Cheshire, England. Any
information on these people would be welcomed.
Thank you,
Lisa

My wife and I just returned from England after spending a week with a
new found cousin, who lives outside of Crewe in a town called Alsager.
We had a Reunion with about 30 Cotgreave's, put together in a very short
period of time! Many had never met one another. everyone had a great
time.
Among the people I met were David Cotgreave, Past Mayor of Chester, and

Dear all
Just a few lines to introduce myself and my search. My name is Lisa
Carden and I was born in Widnes, but now live and work in London for
the moment. I am very keen to find out anything about Cardens in the
Widnes area: so far I have drawn a blank after my great-grandmother,
whose name was Anne. I would also be interested to hear from anyone in
the same area named Mallinson who might have known Anne Carden - this
won't be too far back - maybe 1900-1918?
I just subscribed so I wanted to send a brief note to say hello to all.
My name is Christy Vandekieft and I am looking for the family CHIDLOW.
They lived in Great Britain, moved to Australia and then moved on to the
United States.
If anyone has any information for me, please don't hesitate to e-mail.

Hello...
I am very new to this list and also to genealogical matters in the UK.
I am researching the KIRBY family of Cheshire, particularly the branch
from Woodford, Cheshire, with George Alexander Kirby married to Ira May
Joyce with a son named John Alexander Kirby (born 1935 died 1977). Does
anyone have these names in their family 'tree? I don't know birth or death
dates, or any other ancestoral info. yet. Someone suggested I look at the
1881 Cheshire census, but as of yet have no access to that. I will
Hello,
Several people have asked me to post the names of the two agents I use (BDM
certs, censuses and wills) to the group. I hope no-one minds.
Peter Smith: genfind730@cix.compulink.co.uk Takes foreign cash payments.
Peter Norman: Four_Corners_Search@compuserve.com Takes all kinds of plastic.
Both have very reasonable rates - I suggest you e-mail them for the most
up-to-date ones.
Needless to say, I have no business connection to either of them - and
offer no guarantees : - )

Hi,
I've had lot's of encouragement to post useful Internet sites - so here's
another one to tempt you:
Macbeth Genealogical Services (in Australia) have a very impressive array
of English (and other) records for sale on microfiche. Quite a few Cheshire
records are included - such as directories:

To make it easier to spend your money they seem to take personal cheques in
US$, NZ$, AUS$ and GBP as well as plastic!

Hi Helen and Olivia and All,
Rather complicated this middle name thing.
My McDonald's started with middle names in the late 1800's, although
having said that I have a middle name for the generation previous to
this. This McDonald family were catholic, would that perhaps have
anything to do with it?
Whereas, my Rathbone's( Church of England) didn't have middle names
until well into the 1900's, my mother and her siblings, all born
between 1929 and 1951, didn't have middle names. When we were born we

Noticed your interest in Davies from Chester. I have a Charles Davies,
born in Isycoed parish, Denbigh., Wales in 1828, who seems to have lived
most of his life in Chester. He worked as a shoemaker. He lived into this
century. Do you see any connection?

Janet,
I had at least one family of Davies in Chester in the 19th and 20th
century. My g.granduncle, Charles Davies was born in Isycoed, Wales in
1828 but spent most of his adult life in Chester working as a shoemaker.
He was still alive in Chester circa 1910. Do you see a connection?

Hello, George,
Venables seems to have been a very common name. I remember my wife when
checking the records of St Alkmonds Parish in Whitchurch, Salop, saying
it seemed that every fourth entry was a Venable.
We frequently came across it in other parishes as well in Cheshire.
Good hunting, Bill Cotgreave

Hello all,
I'm taking this opportunity of posting my Cheshire interest.
My gggf was Joseph HILL, a blacksmith. No more information on him at
present. He had a son, also called Joseph, who was born cc1820 at
Northwich. He was also a blacksmith, and next appears in Manchester,
where he married Mary Ann Saxon on 10 Aug 1840.
Any details of HILLs in Northwich would be appreciated.
