I think the Confederacy really missed the boat , when they didn't free there
slaves and make use of these loyal black southerners, just think if Lee had
1000, 000 extra fightingmen say in 1863- 64 or better yet maybe, the south
would have been better off to have made its constitutional claims in court
where they may have had a chance to win. I believe Lincoln didn't have a
choice in what he did once the south seceded he was following in the foot
steps of Washington who put down the west's attempt to seced
You are a boneheaded neo-confederate who knows nothing, I have NO Yankee
ancestor, I'll put my southern ancestor up agin yours anytime, I was kicked
off the southern list for merely bringing up slavery , because you all were
afraid to discuss it, isn't slavery part of southern history or just the
part you don't wish to talk about, but I would like to thank those
neo-confederates whos ravings has done more to expose there theory for what
it is the antique, outdated, ravings of lunatic madpeople, I couldn't

I believe that Lincoln was already a veteran of the so called Black Hawk
war. I understand that in the south you could "dodge the draft" if you
owned a certain amount of slaves and couldn't southerners pay subs too, a
fellow told me his ggrandfather paid for a sub to the confederate
government.

The only squirrel hunters I every heard of were the hunters that marched off
to defend Cincinnati at the Governors request.
I don't know of any pages on the web please post them to the list if you
come acrossed any. There is a roster of the hunters in the library at
Gallipolis, Ohio also does any one know the address of the Latter-day
Saints new family history site.

Now that I got your attention , does anyone know of any Confederate accounts
of the battle of Stevenson's (Stephenson's) Depot VA., July 20,1864 also
called the battle of Carter Farms. There General did say his men ran like a
bunch of scared rabbits. General Ramseur Division, Earlys Army of the
Valley, I think
There were other duties a unit could do , at the battle of Cedar Creek my
gggrandfathers 91st Ohio was guarding cattle, at the second day at the
battle of Lynchburg they supported a artillery battery also don't forget the
flankers, those that marched as skirmishers on the sides of
a column incase of attack when marching in column.

I think your wrong about that , I have a few union accounts, thats why I
want confederate accounts. It was a Union Brigade of the Army of West
Virginia (which included my gggrandfather) commanded by Cavalry Brig.

I think you are wrong if I understand what your saying, your writing is a
bit to high brow for me, I am saying, in the confederate government there
was a deferment for planters that I think owned more then 20 slaves , if you
can't stand facts or the discussion there of, to bad. I think your a bit
paranoid, I saw a opportunity to discuss deferments and did, I think it is a
interesting part of the war. I know Shelby Foote talks as if only the
north had subs. the bottom line is when it comes to the Civil
My mother always said her ggrandfather was shot for deserting, I'm not sure
if he was union or confederate, but if he were from Ohio I have read there
were about 50 or so Ohioian shot for deserting would anyone know if there is
a name list of these men.

Does anyone know if a Andrew lee from Lawerence Co. Ohio served in any West
Virginia or Ohio regt. also is there a genealogy of Robert E. Lee on the
internet. and what degree of kin do you have to be to a Confederate soldier
to join the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
I think its a lost cause, its not Gettysburg or someother big battle field
so nobody cares enough to save it, I have been there, it would make
a nice preserved battle field with a walking path or car tour maybe some new
monuments but like my GGGrandfather and his Regt. the 91st Ohio's part in
the battle, its a day late and a dollar short, if they saved it I wouldn't
even care if they put a big OLE Confederate monument to Morgan and his men
there on Ohio soil , I would even contribute to it.

If it was W.VA. Rangers it wouldn't have been Confederate, There were
probably irregular Union forces operating in West Virginia at that time, I
don't know what they were, I'll look through my library and see if I can
find Anything.

Always glad when someone brings up slavery and the civil war, as I have come
to believe it to be the first cause of the war. Certainly Lincoln did free
the slaves by his Fighting the war, whether that was his or the norths
intentions at the beinning of the war or not I think,
its a fair statement and of course the victors write the history that
stands, as the Romans said "to the victors go the spoils"
I would like to give some quotes from men in my gggrandfathers Regt. the
91st Ohio, on slavery and the wa
I ran a cross a very interesting article in a Lawerence Co, Newspaper from
1862, I think it was taken from a New York paper, it told of some Union
soldiers going up against some black troops, but the reporter seemed to
think the union boys not use to seeing Negroes just mistook dirty tanned
southern white boys for Negroes. I didn't copy the piece at the time because
thats not what I was working on , but if I get down there again I will ,
because I haven;t read it in any of the black confederate books and I
