2. [Clan SMITH] Tartan Question [1]
Hello to all, I am a new member to the mailing. My mother was Bertha Rea Smith. Her parents were Minnie Pearl Goss (of William Goss and Martha Jane Smith) and William Dwight Smith. The were both Scotch Irish Cherokee and first cousins. William's parents were Samuel Smith and Josie Tedwell. They lived in AR but supposedly came from OK and were on the Trail of Tears. If you can help me get beyond them, great. If you have information of other Cherokee Smith connections I would be interested. However, my

5. [Clan SMITH] Declaration of Arbroath [1]
Dear All: A snippet from Scottie: Declaration of Arbroath The National Archives of Scotland holds a copy of the Declaration of Arbroath which was made in 1320 (the original was sent to the Pope in Rome, asking him, in rousing terms, to acknowledge Scotland as an independent nation and to reject the claims of the English king). The National Archives have produced a limited edition print of the document, showing it as it was before parts of the text were damaged in the 1800s. One of the prints is being pres

Dear All: A new level 3 Virus Alert was issued. The names will vary but it is generally a form of W32.Klez.X@mm While you will not get the virus from Rootsweb you may well get a email from a subscriber or a friend that you have corresponded with and it will look like a legit response to the email or post that you made. The Virus has two files attached. One will have a random file from the sending computer and the other will be the virus with a double extension with ******.txt.exe etc. So it appears to b

11. [Clan SMITH] SMITH Francis - Barrachan, Mochrum, Wigtownshire Scotland, pre 1880 [1]
I am looking for anything at all to do with the family below! Francis was a weaver by occupation. I cannot find his marriage in Mochrum, and the family does not appear to be there in the census records (1841, 1851). I have some theories..but have not proof: - they were from Ireland - they were from Ayrshire (by 1851 the youngest son, Alexander was married and with his family there) - they were from somewhere else in Scotland Francis SMITH b c1790 and Agnes YOUNG Children: Mary SMITH b 17 Oct 1809 Barrach

Dear All: Sorry about the two emails on the Virus Alert . Our "friends" at Qwest decided to do two of each email that I sent on Wed. The only good thing was that I didn't get charged for the duplicates :-). Unfortunately you got twice the posts as well. In addition it appears that Rootsweb is doing something strange this week with email from the gateways as well < sigh> Now if we can only get more posts on genealogy .....? 16. Re: [Clan SMITH] Smith clan coat of arms. [1]
Dear Brandon: There is no such thing as a family crest or family coat of arms. Nor a clan coat of arms. Arms are earned by or granted to individuals. Not families. Ergo, there is no proper one for "us more on the Scottish side." Not unless you can prove your genealogy to show you are a descendant of an armorigious person and apply to Lord Lyon's Court to have your arms matriculated. Smith was a job name. It comes from the world over in one form or another. You will have your work cut out for you to p
