Dear List Members:
There have been a number of interesting posts recently on various migration
routes to western Ohio. I have posted some information on the Miami County
(OH) GenWeb page regarding my own ancestors' migration from the Elizabeth,
NJ, area to the Miami valley:
A lot of this migration spilled over into adjacent counties. My
great-grandfather David Clark Carey moved from Miami County to Champaign
County immediately after the Civil War. Som
There are a large number of Dingledine in these counties and I am seeking information on Samuel D b1837 and his family . His father Jacob can also be found here as well.
Any help would be appreciated

Hi Beverly,
I eagerly read your posting today about John Thomas of Champaign Co
OH, but by the third line realized that your John Thomas was not the same
person as my most wanted Thomas, one of the four other John Thomas's of
Champaign Co OH about that same time period. Mine married Sarah Owen Nov
6, 1789 in Harrison Co VA (now WV), had a daughter Elizabeth Thomas there
Jun 20, 1796, and moved to Champaign Co OH before 1816. Unknown birth
date, location, and parents, and also unknown death date/l
I received the following info from
slw02@sprynet.com Susan Williams who is very interested in migration
routes people took to get into Champaign and Clark Cos. I am also and would
love to hear from anyone else who has done any work in this area. I know
Richard Pence is interested too, particularly in routes from VA to OH.
Leave your messages here on the List so others can share, and maybe we can do
something wonderful here together... the first really interactive
The LOUDOUN CO, VA website has created an area of migrations from Loudoun to
other areas. The major area was Ohio. Many of us contributed our VA to OH
info there so it would be well worth looking at.
Just work your way from the OH site, to the US site then back to VA then to
LOUDOUN CO.

Hello all,
Could someone tell me what towns existed in Pleasant and Harmony townships in
the 1830's? If there are a lot, just the major ones would be fine.
Also, while in Hardin Co, I was talking to a relative who is a member of the
township counsel and he said the township kept records on the township going
back a good bit. Does anyone know if this would be the case in Pleasant and
Harmony Twp in Clark Co, and if so, how far back might they have records? I
would love to find where my ggg gf John Wes
I have a problem with my maternal gr grandfather George A. RULAFORD.
The problem is that this is probably not his real name!
His death cert gives this name with his parents as James S. and Helena

and the death cert for Helena gives her the surname of BURNHAM. George
named a son Burnham S. RULAFORD.
I have documents that indicate that George married in Franklin Co., OH
using the name Edgar McMULLIN, to Mary W. unknown in 1870. He h

Good evening,
I am needing to know if Ohio has a birth index? My Great Grandmother Martha Baker daughter of Aaron Baker & Anna Allen was born in Champaign County September 05, 1835. She had 7 siblings. Is is possible to get a birth reocrd on her in hopes of finding out where her parents were from? I am located in Florida and am not certain as to the correct procedures for Ohio, but would appreciate any help or advise.
I have posted a query to the Ohio USGenWeb Project and have also written to the State Arc
This is to advise you that a new website is being developed by a group

THE IMMIGRANT SHIPS TRANSCRIBERS GUILD. This is a group of over 100

who have decided to transcribe NARA microfilmed passenger lists so that
everyone on the internet can have free access to such lists. In
addition, the
GUILD is receiving donations of lists which have already been

Hi:
Am wondering here if anyone has a source for a death record of some sort
for Champaign Co abt 1815?
I found a book locally (Houston, TX) with some custody information on
the children of one Thomas Plummer. It stated that Sally Plummer was
granted custody of the minor children August 10, 1815 (ok, it LOOKED
like 15 or 16)
So far, I have not managed to find a will, or anything at all on the
Death of this man. (at this point, I haven't even found him burried
anywhere)
Does anyone have a suggestion?
Thanks,

I have been reading the posts about the migration pattern to Ohio. I live

Greetings:
Does anyone out there have access to a marriage index for Champaign
County?? I am trying to find the marriage of Patrick OHara and Susan
Bradley, probably occurred between 1870 and 1890.
Also, can anyone give me the name and address of the Catholic church in
Urbana, Ohio.
Thanks.

I am seeking information on Phoebe SILLS born in Champaign Co. Ohio in or
about 1838. I have some information on her, but would appreciate more.
Phoebe married Erastus JOHNSON on 9-8-1855 in Champaign Co. Ohio. I have
absolutely no information on Erastus and it is making me crazy. One of
their daughters Amanda Jane dob 1858 married David Wilson JULIEN dob
1853. David was the son of James William JULIEN dob 1810 and Martha
KNOTT dob 1807.
Any help would be appreciated.

Did you know, thanks to Thelma Tomlinson of MICH (and native of Clark Co)
that we are adding 15-20 obits a week to Clark and Champaign Cos. GenWeb
sites? Thelma has done so much work that we are now indexing them by all
surnames mentioned in the obits. (Be sure to check both counties as they
really do share many of the same family names and are not duplicated).
If you have ANY obits relating to persons in either county (they do not have
to have died there) either type them here for me, or send them in m
Good Afternoon!
I hope someone can point me in the right direction. I had someone ask if a
person could buy their way out of the military in the 1920's. Is this true?
They were from Champaign County and from what the family has told her, this
is what her father did. I have done some searching, but I'm not real sure
where to go next. If he did this, would it be noted in his discharge
record? I would appreciate any information!
Have a great weekend.

To Those who are interested in migration from SouthWest VA to Clark and
Champaign Counties prior to the War of 1812 and did not settle in KY or TN.
I cannot say definitely but I have very strong feelings that those who came
early into the area possibly followed the Warriors' Path to Point Pleasant,
followed the Ohio River to the mouth of the Miami River, and north to the area
Simon Kenton was settled. The Warriors' Path started in the New River Valley
and generally followed the Kanahaw River north to the
