3. [CLWYD] Jones....Childrens homes in and around Ruthin and Mold circa 1914.. Help required [1]
After uncovering a few more details about my grandmothers family line, I thought it might be prudent to see if I could obtain any details regarding locations of the Children's Homes around Ruthin and Mold, as my grandmother Mary Fanny Jones and her sisters and brothers, we know, were packed off into a home at some time. This is likely to have been after their father John Jones was killed in a roofing accident around 1914, hence his widow, Margaret Jones (nee Roberts) would have been unable to maintain the

Bore da, Graham: I was born in Canada, my parents emigrated from Dyserth, North Wales 66 years ago: BUT they kept the Welsh language alive in our home, we grew up speaking Welsh, and I still can speak it today, although my parents have been long gone. Whilst we were growing up we had a cat in our home, to whom we spoke Welsh - she didn't understand any other language. When my sister and I get together, I insist that we speak Welsh - I don't want to lose it, because when I do get to Heaven, I'll be quite

6. Re: [CLWYD] Microfiche and scanners [1]
Dear Judy, I know about being in the sticks! I finally did buy a small microfiche and tried to transcribe the 1900 census for Rhyl. The only thing is I did it in Word and every time I turned it on, everything was kitty wampus, so I finally gave up. It is very hard to transcribe and type especially when there are a lot of repeat pages and people. You have to give the persons that do it a lot of credit! Someone posted this on the Sussex List today and I thought this list would like to see it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------------------- For those who appreciate "historical significance"... Next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature isn't just how you like it, think about how things used to be... Here are some facts from the 1500s: Most people got married in June, because they took the
9. [CLWYD] Gwespyr/Bae Cinmel [1]
Hi Graham I think that it is #15 for the first hour and then say #5 for the next hour and so on. I went there a couple of years ago and just put a couple of quid in the plate ( all I had on me at the time ). Then I learnt that it was #5 a visit and now it is the price above. I'm glad I covered my Llanasa relatives when I did. Bae Cinmel is the Welsh form of Kinmel Bay which is just over the river from Rhyl, it did not exist until the 1930's the area was known as the Foryd until land was bought off the Kinme

Dear Mavis and Molly thanks very much for getting back to me and I appreciate you trying to help. I am not sure if Llauwhitford is a farm or a place I couldn't find it when I looked on the genuki site or in any maps. I just had found Robert Hughes on the 1891 census and his place of birth was Llauwhitford but on the 1901 census his place of birth is shown as Mostyn that is why I put both locations to try to give you everything I had so far, I believe Mostyn is near Whitford so maybe the 1891 census was a ty

Hi List and Graham Graham, Thanks ever so much for that. I have a sneaky suspicion that, it might be this one: p5 29 Sept 1778 Robert JONES s John & Martha of Mwstwr Martha was the name of my G Grandmother - and there were no David and Mary's in the family. The five daughters were: Margaret (after mother, gmothers); Hannah (? a ggmother); Martha (?poss ggmother); Maria and Emma. I'm a great believer in family names - it has worked for me on many occasions - but it doesn't always follow the order tha

19. [CLWYD] White Horse Pub ,Overton, Ruabon [1]
Has anybody the 1891 census covering Overton,Ruabon,Flint. I have just received the death certificate for a John Roberts who died at the Consumption Hospital in 1893. The death was registered in Kensington,London by his wife E. Roberts. If this is hopefully my g/g/grandfather it would be compatible with what we know so far. What has thrown a spanner in the works is his home address at the time of his death, it was occupation Licensed Victualer of the White Horse at Overton, Ruabon, Flint. If this is him a

Thank you Doris, Newmarket was not a very large place at that time and I am clutching at straws. I am encouraged that you have found a connection. I ordered the 1861 and 1871 census for Newmarket from the pro months ago and was finally told it had been shipped and lost in the mail. I don't think I will pay for it again on the chance that I might receive it, but will wait until it is available elsewhere hopefully on a cd. 23. [CLWYD] lookup for Jane Ellis, father John [1]
Hello, I looked up my Jane Ellis on the FreeBMD and found two for Jun 1849. She was born in Hawarden, I believe. The districts were Holywell and Wrexham. Which would be the best bet if ordering a birth certificate? Would sks have access and would be willing to do a lookup to confirm the father's name of John on either of these. Does this make any sense? Here's hoping and many thanks. Loraine, Oregon, USA

Dear List, I am still trying to find Rhydwen Jones. SKS told me about a Rhydwen Jones & Davies furniture movers in Rhyl and I am wondering if anyone has any information about it. It would have to be after WW2. As I said before, he received a medal during the war and it was listed in the London Gazette. His number was 166654 and he served on the HMS Ajax. Brick wall #1. He was my husbands cousin and the family lived on Kinmel Street. His sister[Mary Eva] married a Conway and lived in Conway. Hope someone has
