Hello list What was the customary way for settlers to acquire land in Colorado prior to the Homestead Act of 1862. I have an ancestor who apparently was with Mountain District #1, Nebraska Territory ca 1859-1860, then acquired land from Prudencia Baca in Huerfano Co shortly thereafter. I have been unable to locate record of this land in either name in Huerfano Counties, Las Animas, Counties. CO, New Mexico, Kansas or Texa (I know the boundaries and jurisdictions were complex during this time period.)

Hi, I'm searching for Laura Hysong who is found in the 1910 Denver Co., Denver City, CO census. This is Precinct 4, residence 1735 Walton Street. She is 41 years old, divorced, born in PA, parents born in PA, she is a nurse. Laura is then found in the 1911 Denver City Directory living at 1313 Acoma St. with Miss Nellie Hysong - her daughter. Laura is a helper at the Edelweiss Cafe. I cannot find Laura or her daughters, Nellie or Marie anywhere after that time. Any help is appreciated.
