Hi, I'm interested in finding little bit more about my grandmother (Maud Mellor Alice COMLEY). She was born in St Luke, London in 1888. She had three brothers, William, George and Jack (might have been John). Her parents were George William Comley and Elizabeth (nee WRIGHT) Comley. Andrew recently sent me a copy of a paper published in 1939 "Comly Family in America" by George Norwood COMLY which suggests the origin of the name:- *The name has been found spelled Combly, Comely, Comley, and Comly [I think that we have even more versions now] and it is said by some that the family had the same origin as the Cholmleys, Chumleys, and Cholmondeleys.
