Meantime, I have a great uncle who was supposed to have been Sheriff in Park County forever ago...when mining was booming...name of Charles Aspegren. Anyway to research that fact? I, by the way, am a Colorado native who boasts pioneer plates on my car. Ancestors have been here since around 1864. Thanks, Nancy in Denver Happily Rooting & Digging the Dusty Trails of Colorado

20. [COPARK] Gold Mine, JENNINGS, YAUGER [1]
Hi, fellow Park Co. researchers. I was wondering if anyone out there knows anything of the Beaver Creek Gold Mining Company? My ggrandfather, Daniel JENNINGS of Knox County, Ohio, lived part of the year in Colorado to mine. About two months before his death in Fairplay (Dec. 26, 1903) he sold his $200,000 shares in his Beaver Creek Gold Mine to a F. A. Yauger for $4,000 (we don't claim he was a good businessman!) My ggrandfather's death certificate from Colorado says "alcoholism" was the cause of his

I am now the listadmin of this list since becoming CC of Park Co. COGenWeb this past week from Shelly who did such a great job on it before me. I wish her well. I expect to adinister COPARK-L and COCHAFFE-L seperately with COCHAFFE being used for genealogical discussion and research for Chaffee County, CO and COPARK-L for the same for Park County, CO. I recognize both are rural counties, so the lists will be slow, but that is no problem for myself. I hope to work on increasing activity on these lists so

I live a little farther from Fairplay than you, I live in Georgia. I got my copy at the U.S. Forest Service office in Fairplay. They have a pretty good selection of books. I don't know if they have a WEB site, but you may want to do a search on Fairplay or Pike National Forest and see what comes up. You might also try Amazon.com. Maureen, I don't know much about the area, other than there is a stream called Beaver Creek near Fairplay. I think the junction of Beaver Creek and the Platte River is where Fairplay was established. Some of the stream was dredged years ago, but I don't know if it was done by the Beaver Creek Gold Mining Company. A very good book on South Park is called "Bayou Salado", by Virginia McConnell Simmons. I didn't find a Jennings or a Yauger in the index. My wife's family live in Fairplay. List, Following a

I wish to announce to the subscribers of COPARK-L that due to health reasons [as I was informed] that I accepted the role of CC for Park County in COGenWeb.
