1. PASSPORTS [1]
Does anybody know anything about passports? My grandparents each obtained passports in 1925 to come to AMERICA but then my grandmother had a stroke & could not walk so they did not come. Is it possible to get the information they gave to get the passports? All I have is the page torn out with their pictures on it. I know they got them so where can I write for that info? Thanks Susane a Cornish/Irish/Scot Celtic blueyed woman displaced in the mountains of North Carolina "Pub bolon
2. FARM NAMES? [1]
I am having a lot of trouble trying to decipher the 'where born' name on my Mums birth certificate. I can read the Redruth , Cornwall part but before the Redruth entry there is another name. My Mum told me she grew up on a farm so now I think it is the farm name I think it must be a farm name & it looks something like TREFLUH or TREFENIA or the T could be a Y . I have tried comparing it with the other words on there but am still confused. Trefunio, Treflenio, Trefush etc HEL

5. Re: Keyboard characters on the MAC [1]
Cynthia, Option-3 (i.e, hold down the 'option' and the numeral '3' at the same time) will get you the # sign. You should have an item under your Apple Menu called 'Key Caps,' which will show you the character generated whenever you press a certain key or group of keys. Rick Elliott

7. Re: Gravestone Rubbing Help Needed [1]
Fran, I think your instructions on Gravestone rubbing are fine, but I don't know whether the last point * Take a medium-bristled brush for cleaning off some of the lichen and moss within the letters. is going to be well-received. There seem to be a contingent of folks out there who do not want lichen or moss disturbed in any way. Rick Elliott
8. Re: mollydookers [1]
In the USA left-handers are commonly called 'southpaws.' This comes from the way baseball diamonds are laid out with home plate, where the batter stands, facing east so the afternoon sun will not shine in the batters' eyes. The left-handed pitcher would have his throwing arm the south side, hence 'southpaw.' Rick (Formerly Mr Baseball, now Mr Quethiock) Elliott
9. Re: CLEMAS/Penryn [1]
Sandra, There are 42 entries in the Quethiock db for surname CLEMAS. The earliest so far is 11, 18 &25 May 1828- Banns of Marriage read for Mary Clemas and John Bennett. (This couple subsequntly married 25 Jun 1828 but the bride's name was then spelled CLEMENS, so it looks like you'll have to watch for variants in the name.) The most recent entry is for the 1871 census in which Charlotte Clemas, age 6, from Liskeard is shown as the granddaughter of John Tremain, a lead miner from St Austel. There was a

Hello, My apologies to the list for sending a private post using this forum. Gaynor, You wrote Dear Rick, Why is it that when you post to the list, we get 30 lines of address etc. before we get to the message? Sincerely Gaynor I sent you an answer immediately, but it was bounced back to me. Perhaps the problem is with your Email provider. I certainly don't want you to think I'm ignoring your question. Dear fellow listers, (Listmembers who have to pay for their EMail "by the byte," or who do not suffer fools gladly, may want to hit the delete key NOW, but be warned that if you do you may miss out on a WOWZER of a note.) Although no one has yet appointed me "God's gift to the Cornish List" (but nominations are still open) I thought I'd share a few ideas of mine regarding what constitutes "good" versus "bad" posts to this forum. I would propose that anyone found guilty of posting a "bad" messag
21. Tryphena/Tryphosa ROSEVEARE [1]
Richard, And other Listers, Interesting post regarding Tryphena and Tryphosa. The Quethiock db shows a Tryphena and Tryposa Roseveare, possibly twin sisters, in the 1851, '61, '71 and '81 censuses, and 'Tryphona' in the '91; your guess is as good as mine as to which of the two 'Tryphona' would have been. They were daughters of William Roseveare, a farmer from Quethiock, and his wife Catherine. Rick Elliott
