I am sorry, but the facts you give do not seem to indicate a connection between our Coulters. My John Coulter was John M. Coulter. It is true that he may have been born in Tenn., but there were Coulters in a number of counties in the early 1800's. You do not give a date for him, but, based on the

I would like to connect with anyone on this trail. I have a James Coulter who is the deceased father of Samuel & Sarah Coulter in adoption proceedings in Lancaster, PA. on Nov. 5,1745. Their mother is mentioned as Mary and the father's date of death is 7 Aug. 1735. I think Samuel is the father of my gggg grandfather Thomas. There are soooo- many Coulters out there that it's been frustrating. Anyone else closing in on this Samuel? Pat
I too would like to have a copy of the index and information on how to
obtain a copy of the thesis.

My G.G.Grandfather was one of a family of Coulters who also left Ireland and
went to Glasgow duing the potato famine. Two known brothers came to New
Zealand James b. 1838 and Archibald (my relative) b. 1841.
Their parents were Joseph Coulter m.to Mary Weir.
I wonder whether these brothers were part of your Coulter family as little
else is known here in NZ.Since there were so many of them I guess they all
scattered to different parts of the globe?

Many people have received copies of Professor James Hagy's thesis on the
early frontier settlement at Castle's Woods. It has been a very popular
item for those with Virginia ancestry. What makes the story fun for me is
the fact that I was able to locate the good professor thirty-seven years
after he wrote the thesis and discuss my 6-great grandfather's participation
in it. Samuel Cowan was killed and scalped by Indians returning to
Houston's fort to warn of an impending attack.
