1. [COVENTRY-L] Important from the listowner... [1]
Hello everyone. I had previously thought some of the problems on these lists were gone, but with people subscribing all the time, I guess they will never go away. This is a reminder of some of the things that I have decided I will try to send out every few months...for now on the subject will be "from the listowner...how to post". Basically, in the past 2 weeks, I have had to redirect about 50% of the posts that are going to all my lists because people are sending them to the wrong address. Right now I
2. [COVENTRY-L] Let's Help Rootsweb! [1]
This is a forwarded message I recieved and I think that this is something everyone should be involved in. Without rootsweb, none of the genealogy Rootsweb lists that exist (over 5,000!) wouldn't be here. They have done so much for all of us, and I am sure some are you are very aware of what they do. All the things like the genweb archives and everything are housed at Rootsweb and without them, things like the censuses in the archives, mortality schedules, etc., wouldn't be accessible to us over the compu
3. [COVENTRY-L] suggestion on supporting rootsweb...please read [1]
Hello everyone, I have a suggestion/thought about supporting rootsweb. I received a message earlier from someone who had sent that cookbook thing to about a dozen lists and a couple more dozen people and in it, she said something that made me think...If everyone who received it just donated even $1, there would easily be a couple hundred total for rootsweb....what do you say we try that?? I have 7 lists and 2 of them have over 100 people on them (Black and Bradford) and the other lists combined would be m
4. [COVENTRY-L] Word of the week....? [1]
Ok everyone, no one really sent me a suggestion for the word of the week for this week and it's already Wednesday. If you have ANY suggestions, let me know. Also, for those that are new to the lists, I just wanted to tell you WHAT the "word of the week" is all about. In the past, these lists have been very inactive, weeks could go by with not one post, and I wanted to get activity up. I started a "program" for the word of the week where I give a word/phrase, such as John or North Carolina, and anyone w
5. [COVENTRY-L] Word of the week...Australia [1]
I have seen some posts on Australian Coventry's so it seemed like a good idea when it was suggested to me. So, start your modem and post your Coventry lines related to Australia:) If you don't have a line related to Australia, but want to post your info, feel free:) Erin Bradford kshai@geocities.com Listowner for Barringer, Black, Bradford, Coventry, Eller, Hackett, and Kern http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/6106/genlinks.html (+800 genealogy links) http://www.angelfire.com/mt/listdex/index.html

8. [COVENTRY-L] Roll Call! [0.989791]
Ok everyone, we have had a bunch of new subscribers to ALL the lists. Because of this, I would like people to start posting their lines. Unlike almost every list, I don't discourage Roll Calls because I know they have helped me. (Please make note that MOST lists will UNSUBSCRIBE you by hand if you start a roll call, so keep it on these lists please) I am sorry if you don't like Roll Calls, and if you feel it necessary to unsub because of it, well, that's your loss. I DO have a couple guidelines for Roll

10. [COVENTRY-L] from the listowner...thanks and here is a treat:) [0.989791]
Hello everyone. I want to thank you all for your help. I am still looking for stories on using the census from 1790-1850, territorial censuses, and searching for minority ancestors with the census (African-American, Native American, Melungeon, etc.). I got a really good story that is really funny so I thought I would share it with all y'all. Enjoy and thanks for your sharing. I tried to get back to everyone to thank them personally, but there were over 150 stories sent to me!:) I appreciate it. The f

14. [COVENTRY-L] from the listowner...mass crossposting to lists [0.989791]
This was received from Brian Leverich, one of the main forces behind RootsWeb. Although this hasn't been a problem on any of my lists so far, I thought I would send this to prevent this problem from occuring on these lists. What brought this message from Brian about was that someone had sent a post to more than 50 lists at once...which is really excessive, If you feel you need to cross post, let's make it a rule that you aren't to cross post to more than 7 lists max:) (by the way, the only reason I cross

16. [COVENTRY-L] looking for census stories...not a lookup request [0.989791]
Hello everyone. First off, I apologize for sending this to so many lists at once. I didn't want to have to retype this out and send it to each list seperately, especially since I have a disconnected finger:). Second, let me tell you what I'm looking for and why. I am looking for any stories that any of you can share with me, good and bad, about you experience with using the census for genealogy research. This could be anything, an example could be hunting for an ancestor when the name was misspelled.
17. [COVENTRY-L] William Coventry, Ireland - Australia [0.989791]
Please let me know if this isn't the done thing (I'm new to both genealogy and mailing groups) but as I just had the good fortune to come across somebody on a newsgroup looking for information on a William Coventry of Donegal transported to Australia in 1799, I thought I'd pass on my reply providing the information that I have to people in the Coventry list. However, it is rather long - are there protocols about length of messages? Also, let me know if I'm wrong about my presumption that most subscribers

I do not have much info on this Coventry. My gg grandmother was Emma Coventry. She was most likely from Sullivan County, NY. My grandmother told me that she is from Holland, but I am not sure this is true. She married Anthony Edward Gross, who is from Holland. They lived in White Sulfur Springs, Sullivan County, NY.

23. [COVENTRY-L] Re: Catherine Black, NY [0.989791]
My gggg grandmother was Catherine Black. From what I have found she was born around 1809 and she lived most of her adult life in Neversink, NY. She married Henry Porter and had a number of children, including my ggg grandmother, Elizabeth Porter. I have a pretty good reason to believe that Catherine was a Native American, or at least partly. As of this point I have been able to locate none of her ancestors.
24. [COVENTRY-L] COVENTRY IN TASMANIA, AUSTRALIA [0.989791]
Being new to genealogy, I hope I've interpreted your 'roll call' concept appropriately ... By the way, my grandmother began this research some time ago and hasn't recorded all of her sources. I am still to verify some of the information. My great grandfather was Louis James Lyle COVENTRY (b Mersey, Tasmania 29 Apr 1889, d Latrobe, Tasmania 18 Jun 1975). He married Mabel ANDERSON (b 5 Jun 1892, d 5 Dec 1968), the daughter of Robert ANDERSON and Ruth CLARKE. They had 14 children. Louis James Lyle Coven
