Ray,
Did your William "Billy" Cox have a brother John?
My 3g grandfather, John Toliver Cox, was born abt 1800 somewhere in SC.
I have been unable to locate his parents and/or siblings. John T
married Mary Powers b 1804 SC. I can't find parents or siblings for Mary
either.
Children of John T and Mary (Powers) Cox are:
Edna "Edney" b abt 1825 SC
Nancy Terresse b 1827 SC
Mary Adeline b 1829 GA
Sarah R b 1833 AR
William J 1836 AR
John T b 1839 AR
James C b abt 1841 TX
Thomas C b abt 1844 TX
Louisa E b 1846/1
Can anyone tell me where the Cox name orginated from and also can anyone
document that Coxes were slave owners?
Thanks for your help

There are several articles with Cox history ..... i.e.:
Cox, Jacob Dolson, 1828-1900, Union general in the Civil War and American
statesman, b. Montreal, of a New York City family. Admitted to the Ohio bar
in 1853, he was active in organizing the new Republican party there and
served (1859-61) in the state senate. Cox, made a brigadier general of
volunteers early in the Civil War, served ably in the Kanawha valley and
Antietam camp
Great work Arleen, Happy for you. You wrote that you were gonna get serious with your gen work and it shows. Thats the work of a good OKIE woman huh?
Janet, I think maybe your John W. Cox are like my Cox people They were just to poor or lack of money to post a land claim or be counted during the census head hunt. I know for a fact that my Cox people were extremely poor. They had to live in Texas. I'm kidding you a bit Janet. Really i am. We have fun with each other huh? A great list.
