Pennsylvania has death records from January 1906. Do you have a copy of his
death certificate, and if so, does it not give the names and places of birth
for his parents?
Does the Bedford County court clerk have a copy of a Scritchfield-Crawford
marriage on file? You'd think there'd not be a huge list of Schritchfields
for them to look through to check. It would help to prove or disprove what
someone "thinks" re James' mother's maiden name in order to allow you to
move on in your research.

Can anyone provide information regarding the naming of Crawford County, Texas
and how it may relate to one or more of the Crawford lines discussed at this
site? I edit a Davies family quarterly newsletter, entitled "Old Nick" (after
the founder of the VA Davies clan, Nicholas Davies). There are several
connections between the Crawfords of Bedford & Amherst Counties, VA and the Davies
clan. I am preparing to start a series of articles on this Crawford line in
2004. I thought that a connection betwee

After getting a rude reply from a lister at this site about a reply I had posted reguarding someone else researching Scotch-Irish information.
I know longer wish to belong to a list where someone will send such a message and in large bold letters.
A small note stating that I had used the incorrect term would have been much better.
Please remember that not everyone is aware of the correct terms to use and would like a much better response that to see an email in huge bold letters stating Scotch is a drink...
My earliest Crawford is Jacob Crawford who was born between 1756 - 1760. He may have been married twice as the 1810 census shows no adult female. He appears on the 1790 census in Northumberland county, PA. In 1800 he is living in Derry Township, Northumberland Co., PA. A James Crawford is just six lines down from Jacob. I suspect this may be his father but I have no proof. Also on the same page are William Crawford and John Crawford who are probably his sons. In 1810 he is shown in Mahoning Township,

CRAWFORD, TEXAS. Crawford is at the intersection of State Highway 317
and Farm Road 185, eighteen miles west of Waco in western McLennan County.
Settlement of the area began in the 1850s and centered around Tonk Crossing
(also called Crawford Crossing), a ford of the Middle Bosque River two miles
east of the present town. The community was probably named for Nelson
Crawford, who graded the river crossing. As early as 1867 the inn at

Re: Manaroo / Monaro
In 1843 Manaroo was the original or old name used for the area in New South
Wales, Australia, that encompased the south eastern area from Cooma near our
capital City Canberra south to the Snow fields and down to the NSW,
Victorian Border.
The name became more modernised and was changed to Monaro which encompases a
slightly smaller version of this region today.
In the 1840s it was an area that was just starting to develop small villages
and hamlets. Many of the great pion
I read with interest the various comments concerning the founding of Crawford, TX. Interest arises from scant information concerning progenitor John Munn, Jr. b. 01-DEC-1736 & d. prior to 1802 in Washington, PA et ux Margaret Crawford, est. 1731-1767, dau of Valentine Crawford and Honora Grimes. I have seen speculation of Margaret's descent from Scotland's Galterus. Hold steady, now, from the discussion of Crawford to which I shall return shortly. Let's go to Wales.

Rita,
Have you ordered a copy of his death certificate? It should give his
mother, Nellie's, maiden name, which will enable you to find her parents and
verify what is shown in census records.

not, perhaps it will be of help to someone else on the list or help you to

Hi Linda,
We may be connected as well. I'm descended from Robert Bryson Crawford
(1824?-1905) from Chester, SC (near York, SC). His father was John
Dunwoody(sp? -- Dinwiddie, Dunwiddie?) Crawford (1799?-1854?), about
whom I know very little. Family history suggests that he was one of
three brothers who emigrated to the US. His wife (Robert's mother) was
Rebeckah Bryson. Do these names ring a bell?
Cheers!
Rob
