"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great." - Mark Twain (1835 - 1910) "I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him." - Mark Twain (1835 - 1910)

I think I may have innocently mislead everyone -I grew up in my parents home but my father and mother were functional alcoholics and abused prescription drugs like Valium. Like most alcoholic families we lived " the secret" My only safe haven was when I went to stay for Spring break and part of summer break with my grandparents. I don't blame my parents - they did the best they could however, as each year passes and through the help from Al-Anon, I can see what was "crazy" in our home. I wonder if having s

JO, I am lucky for my wonderful parents. My father however lost his mother at age 11. He was the oldest of 5. It seems his father just wandered around after that and would be gone for weeks at a time. Sometimes he would get someone from town to stay with the kids, but they usually would either be mean to the kids or would stay a couple nights and take off. At the age of 11 my father had most of the responsiblility of raising 9 and 7 year old bothers and 4 and 2 year old sisters. He wasn't even lucky e

Jo, Most of us didn't think our parents were so wonderful until we got "this old", and can look back and see they were pretty terrific parents. (What teenager thinks her parents are great, who won't let her date, or stay out as late as her friends, or go to night movies, or places their friends get to go to......?) "You had grandparents." I didn't! I used to get so jealous of my friends because they got to visit their grandparents on weekends, and during summer months, they got to spend t
