Hi Linda I know when I sent money there the bank I used only would send money to the Zagreb Bank.. Find out from the banks which bank in Croatia they can send money to or perhaps try using Western Union http://www.westernunion.com/info/intlCountryInfoIndex.asp?country=HR this may help. Email Drzavani Arhiv and ask them if they will deal with the agents listed for Croatia. regards Mary ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda Schrom" To: Sent: Tuesday, Nove

I've used multi map but for Croatia it is not quite as good as Shtelseeker (which uses Mapquest) It does not show nearly as many of the small villages. Here are 2 examples searching for Ozalj each one zoomed in by one click Multi map http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=1725000.48774312&Y=5700000.02301029&scale=500000&width=500&height=300&gride=&gridn=&coordsys=mercator&db=w3&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&keepicon=true&advanced= Shtlseeker http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?zoom=6&mapda

8. [CROATIA-L] Maps [1]
I just found a UK site in my researching travails: http://www.multimap.com It seems to give more "realistic" street maps than either mapquest or yahoo...I haven't tried it on Croatia yet (my research hasn't gotten far enough for me to need it yet (sigh)), but it was hugely helpful in some mapping out of East Liverpool, OH that I was trying to do - much more so than any of the others. Best of luck... Brenda Bush Researching: SUSANJ, DUIMOVIC

Also has map of Cres. I wouldn't call Zvoneca a "town". It has a small church, cemetery and a cluster of houses and is located 7.9km NNW of Opatija. 14. [CROATIA-L] Pronunciation question [1]
I have visited a few websites to try and learn the Croatian alphabet but each one gives a different way of pronoucning the letter 'o' One says it is like the o in "over" Another says it is like the o in "dog" Another says it is like the o in "port" I am aware that the can sound different if they are in stressed or unstressed syllables but I would like to know what is the usual way of pronouncing 'o'? Can anyone help? Thanks in advance. Chris

17. [CROATIA-L] Payment to Croatian Archives [1]
Hello - I received a notice from the archives (Drzavni Arhiv U Pazinu) that they have found my grandfather's birth certificate. They want me to transfer 69,50kn to their bank account. The bank has given me a SWIFT address and account number to transfer the money to, but I have not been able to find any bank or broker who deals in Croatian kuna. I believe the amount is about $8US. It appears that the archives do not want me to send money directly to them; they want me to transfer it to their bank accoun
18. [CROATIA-L] Re: payment to Croatian archives [1]
Thanks to all who advised me re paying the Croation Archives. Perhaps I misunderstand the Western Union website, but it does not appear to me that one can transfer money directly to a bank account through Western Union. I tried calling them but got bogged down in an endless series of menus and finally gave up. I will have another go at getting a bank to do this transfer. > Just cursious if you have found parish records for your GF, which will read > like a family tree giving much more detail than BDMs.

20. Re: [CROATIA-L] maps, especially for smaller towns(and it's in english) [1]
The map appears to only show the large to medium size towns even when zooming in as far as possible. Some links for finding smaller places (still not all!) are found in my links list. http://www.kakarigi.net/maps/ http://www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm The maps online giving the most detail are found at the Croatian phone book online, but there you must find a person first and then click on the placename. Hi Joe and Barb We were in Croatia about the same time you were and our experience was very much like yours. We marveled at the beauty of the country and experienced unbelievable generosity and assistance from people we'd just happened to meet and family we did not know existed until we started to research our roots. Our oldest son who is on sabbatical this year and our oldest granddaughter went with us and were totally charmed by the country and the people. The time was much to short but we vow to retur

Besides using the mapping sites, try Google search. I have had great luck typing in the town name for a book I was writing. Towns such as Ludbreg Croatia, Teresovac Croatia, Ribnik Croatia and got many hits that not only gave information on the towns but also most had maps, some very detailed. I was also able to do a lot of research on the various towns I was interested in which added a great deal of history and folklore to my book. The book, THE BROTHERS AND SISTERS is really the story of my wife's fami
