The Sinac cementery does have the old graves. Sinac is about 40 or 45 KM
from the Adriatic coast. Sinac is about 15 KM from Otocac. I did send a copy
of my report to Zagreb.Lets see what happens. Sorry that I took so long to
answer but I have been working on about 500 picturs that I took while there.
They are Digital and I am trying to put them on a CD.

I've used multi map but for Croatia it is not quite as good as Shtelseeker
(which uses Mapquest) It does not show nearly as many of the small
villages. Here are 2 examples searching for Ozalj each one zoomed in by one

I have visited a few websites to try and learn the Croatian alphabet but each one gives a different way of pronoucning the letter 'o'
One says it is like the o in "over"
Another says it is like the o in "dog"
Another says it is like the o in "port"
I am aware that the can sound different if they are in stressed or unstressed syllables but I would like to know what is the usual way of pronouncing 'o'?
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance.
Chris
Brenda,
send me a copy of the manifest and I'll try to decipher the name. I got a
road map of the island of Cres with all the villages.

Hello -
I received a notice from the archives (Drzavni Arhiv U Pazinu) that they
have found my grandfather's birth certificate. They want me to transfer
69,50kn to their bank account. The bank has given me a SWIFT address and
account number to transfer the money to, but I have not been able to find
any bank or broker who deals in Croatian kuna. I believe the amount is
about $8US. It appears that the archives do not want me to send money
directly to them; they want me to transfer it to their bank accoun
Thanks to all who advised me re paying the Croation Archives. Perhaps I
misunderstand the Western Union website, but it does not appear to me that
one can transfer money directly to a bank account through Western Union. I
tried calling them but got bogged down in an endless series of menus and
finally gave up. I will have another go at getting a bank to do this
transfer.

i work at a library and we recommend this site to patrons all of the time! you simply type in the country or state that you want. then keep clicking on the area to get to smaller and smaller towns- i have used it quite a bit for my genealogical work!

The map appears to only show the large to medium size towns even when
zooming in as far as possible.
Some links for finding smaller places (still not all!) are found in my links

The maps online giving the most detail are found at the Croatian phone book

Hi Joe and Barb
We were in Croatia about the same time you were and our experience was
very much like yours. We marveled at the beauty of the country and
experienced unbelievable generosity and assistance from people we'd just
happened to meet and family we did not know existed until we started to
research our roots. Our oldest son who is on sabbatical this year and
our oldest granddaughter went with us and were totally charmed by the
country and the people. The time was much to short but we vow to retur
Besides using the mapping sites, try Google search. I have had great
luck typing in the town name for a book I was writing. Towns such as
Ludbreg Croatia, Teresovac Croatia, Ribnik Croatia and got many hits that
not only gave information on the towns but also most had maps, some very
detailed.
I was also able to do a lot of research on the various towns I was
interested in which added a great deal of history and folklore to my
book. The book, THE BROTHERS AND SISTERS is really the story of my
wife's fami
