Hello List:
I am new to this group. I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the
port around Groton, and if there were ships that landed there bringing new
immigrants, or if they went to other ports when landing and traveled overland. As
I said, I am fairly new to this, and don't know much about Groton. I am
looking for the possibility that a ship may have brought my ancestors up from the
Carolinas to New London, but I am unsure if this was possible in the 18th
century.
Thanks for your repli
Hi:
I am new to the list so here goes, my Dad's family eventually ended up in New London,Ct . I am looking for Getty-Young family that came from Canada, then NY, Vt, and finally Ct. My Dad's name was Harold Getty. He passed away last April, 2003.
I know that many New London Co., CT families have intermarried with the
Gallups - so I thought this might be of interest. Through the efforts of
many of our Gallup cousins, we have many wonderful pictures from Whitehall
Cemetery, Gallup Hill, and many others of Gallups or Gallup cousins. Some
of these other names include Stanton, Denison, Kinne, Williams, Fish, Noyes,
Burrows, and of course many Gallups. If you are interested in these photos,
you will find a direct link to them here:

That's a great project, Carmen! I added an extra link just to the photo
pages from the New London Co CTGenWeb cemetery page.

Dear Sue,
You will enjoy Mystic Seaport's Library website. They have databases on the
names of ships and crew among other sources.

Sue -
While I don't know of any ships specifically that brought folks up from the
Carolinas, you might enjoy the Joshua Hempstead Diary which he wrote daily
from 1711-1758 (find online) - it is over 700 pages and indexed with thousands
of names (including Lydia Burch who married Joshua Hempstead's son, Joshua) -
Anyway, you can either probably find references to your Carolina-arriving
family, or find all the references to trips made by the townsmen to ports south
both on the continent and in
Hi, Everybody,
I hope the dads out there had a great Father's Day!
I was just browsing around the Internet and found the Robert Dennis
Collection of stereoviews. It's a huge collection of northeastern
stereoviews, and it has a section for "New London, Tolland and Windham
counties". I tried using the search engine, but the drop down menu was
easier to navigate. There also are a good many specific towns, such as
Hartford.
I'm still a big fan of hand colored vintage postcards, but there is
something int
