1. Re: [CUBA]Tabares [1]
Jorge: I have had no luck in my search. When I read this posting and saw "Sagua la Grande" I remembered my mother mentioning that city. So if you have any info on the following surnames I would like very much to obtain it. Dear Vigil, To get the q and a, i, m, s, z in Spanish, select My Computer, Control Panel, Keyboard, Language tab, Add, Scroll down to Spanish (Traditional Sort) and select it by highlighting, then select OK. After you go through that process you should have a small blue background box with the Letters En in white in the Status Bar at the bottom right of your screen. If you click on that box you will be given a choice of English or Spanish keyboard. If you select Spanish you will have the q key in the
3. Re: [CUBA] -history [0.984104]
It's quite amazing how history often repeats itself, even along genealogical story lines. A century ago our Cuba was undergoing a rebirth and an economical explosion after years of decadence under Spain's control and the horrors and devastation of the War of Independence. Many Cuban families left the island during the mid to late 1800's, in search for political and economical stability and to escape the horrors of war. The influx of business and capital by the United States of America after the war produc

6. [CUBA] Subject headings reading "Digest" [0.984104]
I don't know how anyone else feels about it, but I find it annoying to have to click on a message with a subject heading of "Digest" and have it turn out NOT to be a digest. Messages should contain their own specific heading, indicating to the recipient/s of the message the general idea of what the message addresses. I don't mean to be snappy, but time is a valuable commodity and wasting it is well...just that, a waste. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE do

8. Re: [CUBA] CERNUDA and SARABIA [0.984104]
Loretta, I found 3 entries for SARAVIA (note the spelling, please). Don't be discouraged as misspellings abound in these records. These are extracted from the Alpha Index of the Parish Registers of Havana (published by the Cuban Genealogical Society). There was nothing under Matanzas. They are: SARAVIA, Catalina March 31, 1811 - G = witness/or related to person partaking in ceremony Record #: 060211,77 #508 R601 SARAVIA, Francisco Javier November 14, 1845 - Marriage Record #: 060211,79 #515 R601 SA
9. Re: [CUBA] CERNUDA and SARABIA [0.984104]
Vivian, Thank you very much for looking up Sarabia. What you found is encouraging because my gggrandfather was named Fransisco Sarabia. He married my gggrandmother in Key West in 1884, having emigrated from Cuba. He was born @1859, which means he might have been related to Francisco Javier Saravia, whose name you found. Again, thank you. I will be following up on him through LDS. Loretta ----- Original Message ----- From: "Vivian Narvaez" To: Sent: Friday,

Lupe, What a Godsend you are! I've been reading the e-mails you're being sent and the assistance you're providing so many people, and you are to be commended for your hard work. I hope you'll find time in your busy schedule to let me know whether or not the following appear in your Matanzas sources: VICTOR MANUEL CURBELO Y PRIETO (from Jovellanos, Matanzas) married to ELOISA NUNEZ DELGADO (from Pedro Betancourt, Matanzas) married either toward the end of the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th.

15. [CUBA] Parra surname [0.984104]
About 25 years ago there was a Parra family from Cuba who lived in San Francisco, California. It was a 3-generation family. The grandmother, whose name I don't remember; the mother, whose name was Maria; and the son, whose name was Juan Jose. I hope I have this right; either that, or Juan Jose's wife's maiden surname was Parra. Her name was Cary (Caridad?) Parra, but as I said, I'm not sure whether it was her maiden or married surname. In any event, maybe the info will be of some help. __________

Hi Vivian, The Cabrera name belonged to my husband's grandfather, on his father's side, and he was born in Arroyo Naranjo. The Elizarde was a grandfather on his mother's side, and he was born in Santiago de las Vegas. The Marrero was also on his mother's side, but this was his great grandfather who was born in La Habana. I really appreciate your kindness in looking these names up for me and I hope you can find something. Thank you, Norma

However in a previous message you said that your oldest aunt, left a family, and they might be in aome/ any part of the Us or PR. Older daughters are usually the ones who inherited or heard many more times than their brothers, the family history. Her descendants might know it or at least details such as the date when your grandmother died. When

thanks rene. I think that is probably a much better idea. I only have one problem (one that is very embarrassing for me to admit). Vivian: How does one get does parish registers that you mentioned in your message? I am interested in those from the town of Santa Maria del Rosario, Pipian, Guara, all in Havana Province. And from Alacranes, Lagunillas from Matanzas Province. For the first one the person I am researching is Maximo Bonilla, son of Jose Bonilla and Catalina [ last name not recorded]. He died between 1887 and 1891: Thus his birth date must be around 1810. I don't think he was older than 60 at the time of his death as
