1. Re: [CUL] Unmarried mothers [1]
Interesting site but it does not take into account one important factor, the Poor Law. Under the Poor Law it was profitable for unmarried mother to have more "18 penny children", as illegitimate children were sometimes called, and unmarried mothers were considered more marriagable than single girls with no children. I am interested in Arlecdon, Frizington, Egremont, St. Bees, and Whitehaven. Thanks, Sarah

13. Re: [CUL] Christine - sorry [1]
Hi Christine / Geraldine I think it does matter - not because it's etiquette but because listers are more likely to read and respond to your messages. It is a proven fact that the eye can read messages in 'Sentence Case' more quickly. If you're on several mailing lists receiving over 100 messages a day (and that's not counting the 100+ you've already dealt with in work during the day) you have to be ruthless and scan (not read) all your messages and hit that delete button or you'd never have enough time f

25. [CUL] 8870 Formula [1]
New Mexico Sally asked me for a website and I found this: [VA-SOUTHSIDE-L] Age Conversion 5 Jan 2000 "Using the 8870 formula to ascertain a birth date can be a tremendous help to the genealogist when checking tombstone dates. If a tombstone records that a person died May 5, 1889 and was 71 years, 7 months and 9 days old, but no date of birth is listed, in order to correctly arrive at the birth date, one has only to use the 8870 formula to quickly get the date of birth rather than taking time to c
