9. [CZ] St Adalbert's Cemetery - Niles, IL [1]
Can anyone suggest the most efficient way to get burial information from St. Adalbert's Cemetery in Niles, IL, short of going there? I recently discovered that my grandmother and two of her infant children were buried there first, then subsequently moved to Bohemian National Cemetery in Chicago. I checked the internet for St. A's, but came up with information from the general Catholic cemeteries site ... no indication of how to contact the cemetery directly or how to obtain historic/genealogic informa

Can I suggest you approach the "evidence" department at the Jewish community. If they have a "card" for him (they have 64,000 cards for individuals there) then it is highly likely that he was caught up in the net as he was half Jewish. I found even quarter Jewish children in those records. 99.9% died having been caught in the net. Most went from the ghetto onto Terenine (Terezenstat) before being transported to the camps. Some of the older died before being moved out of the ghetto and are to be found in

Hi, Would someone please look up Joseph Smola and Bartel Smola in Baca's list of passengers? In some family papers, Smola is spelled Smolo. These two brothers emigrated from Bohemia in 1875 plus/minus 2 years to New York. They were my great-great-uncles. Thanks, K. Berk

21. Re: [CZ] James/Vaclav & Josephine MALECEK, Josie SOMROVA, Anna HOCK [1]
Hello again, Yes, I did check out the IL marriage info. The only thing I could find out was that only two Maleceks married around 1889-1890. One was named James and the other one was listed as Vaclav, which of course can translate to James. One married a Josie Novak and the other married a Josie Somrova. I'm pretty sure the James Malecek who married the Novak woman isn't the correct one. Nothing about this family seems to pan out. The Vaclav Malecek who married Josie Somrova, 9/15/1890, must

Hi Joe, Thanks for the information. I live a long way from the Bohemian National Cemetery, unfortunately. I am in Florida. It was a researcher who told me about the Malecek baby buried in the same gravesite as my Shima/Schima/Sima great-grandparents. She didn't obtain the name of the baby's parents, I don't know why. It would seem to me that they would have the records, too, but I don't know. I don't believe the Malecek baby was a child of any of my great-grandparent's children. T

25. [CZ] Re: Staup, Bohemia [1]
To Karen Beck - There is no village in Bohemia named STAUP. However, there is a village named STAUPEN, for which I have the information below, in case that is your ancestral village. STAUPEN (Czech name is Stoupno) kept its parish records in Horni Police. They are stored in the Litomerice Archives and begin in 1623. The judicial district for Staupen is in Lipa Ceska. This information is found in Felix Gundacker's books: Dictionary of Bohemian Parishes in the Czech Republic; and the Register of
