2. [CZ] VESELY ancestors [1]
I have been lurking around this website for a few months now, hoping to find others who are also researching the surname VESELY. I have been told that it is a very common name, but I have not seen it come up yet. Below please find my Czech ancestors. If anyone is looking for these people, or, if anyone can help me find out more about them, I would greatly appreciate it: I know that the name VESELY means "happy man", and that the female version, "happy woman" is VESELA. my great grandfather is: JOHN (

I will request them immediately, as they will have more info on where both ladies originated, and their families. I am looking for information on any Rezaks or Truliks in Czechoslovokia. My grandfather Raul "Pavol" Rezak was born there and died 9 September 1961 town and cemetery unknown. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Also, does any one know where I can send for vital records from there? 6. [CZ] RE: Gravestones [1]
My great-grandfather, Caspar Brosius (German) is buried at Mt. Greenwood Cemetery in Chicago, Il. They have his internment records, and know which plot he is in. However, his marker has SUNK into the earth at least two times since he was buried. My relatives have had to literally have it dug up! They then have to cement a new base, and reset the marker! I get the feeling that Caspar doesn't want to be found! Anyway, the moral of my story is, if the marker is supposed to be there, grab a shovel and sta

Hello, When I sent out asking for info on my grandfather and his family I must have hit the wrong button and it should have read: "Paul 'Pavol' Rezak" instead of: "Raul 'Pavol' Rezak. My Grandmother was Mary Chvalnik and she died in the US in Michigan in 1977. I know that he died 9 September 1961 but I do not know when he was born. I am also interested in the names of: Bak, Trulik, & Malinak. My Grandfather was in the dairy profession during World War II and he also helped alot of American Soldie
9. Re: [CZ] Lumber, population, and Czech Colony of Chicago [1]
Jim: Thank you for all this interesting information on Chicago Czechs. My great-grandfather, Jan Vesely, and my great-great-grandfather, Vincenc Vesely both worked in the Chicago "stockyards". Do you have any information in that area? I would love to hear more about Chicago, circa 1900-1920! 12. [CZ] Longevity of graves [0.982149]
Dear Listers, The discussion of the longevity of graves has given new meaning to my parent's use of the words "perpetual care". The bulk of my family is buried in Saint Adalbert Cemetery in Niles, Illinois (a north Chicago suburb). My great grandfather Matej Horn was buried there in 1910 and as of my last visit there in October 2000, his grave and the rest of my family's graves were intact and cared for. My family bought or subscribed to "perptual care". His grave stone contains a cameo picture of my ggm

Dear John (J. Sponheimer - to distinguish all the Johns on this list :-), I have looked at my request folder and see that your request has been already processed - on 6th June 2001. See the list archives at http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/CZECH for this message. I read the reply to your request again. I see that I haven't found the MOJKA surname and thought that it could be a variant of the surname MOJZIS. But if you say that you guess that it could be origined in some other country, it is understanda

19. Re: [CZ] German Burial Plots [0.982149]
This is true in many European countries, including the UK. Term plots were also sold in the US in bygone days. Records hopefully are available in the administrative offices of the cemeteries, but the grave might well have been reused. 21. [CZ] from Baltimore to Chicago??? [0.982149]
My great-great grandparents docked in Baltimore in April 1869 and went to Chicago. Does anyone have a clue the route they would have taken? They had 3 children all born in Bohemia, the youngest was a daughter, Anna 6 months old on the ship. But, the first time I find them in the Census in Chicago....she is not listed. I am trying to figure out where and when she died. I'm pretty sure this is going to be impossible to find...but thought I would throw it out there for some ideas. This list has some very

Marek, you are a jewel to always being so helpful to us -- your information is the greatest help to me and I do hope one day that I will be able to find my father's family. I think I found him on the Ellis Island passenger list.....name (Josef Salon) and the age is just about right. The mystery for me is that I am unable to find his sister with whom I know he had to be traveling with because she had 3 small children, and I am sure my father's passage was paid by her husband. 25. [CZ] CHALOUPKA [0.982149]
This is in response to Marilyn's email yesterday. I tried to email her directly, but the message bounced back: "I have two surnames; MOJKA and CHALOUPKA. Both were from Czeckoslovakia. The MOJKA's came from the Horazdovice-Strakonice area, Kotoun parish, Nova Ves 24.. I guess the CHALOUPKA's may have come from about the same area but am not sure.
