Donna, with the years of Mary Catherine Downing nee Cotton being (1857-1937), and her name being so common, you might try looking for her children instead of her. I looked on the Dawes list and the only William Downing that would even come close to the age that you would be looking for, does not list a Mary or a Catherine on the Census Card. Wiilliam is listed at 52
years of age and listed alone. (This is per the Native American CD). Which one was Cherokee Indian? William and/or Mary Catherine. Sometime

Thanks Jack,
I do know about the list, but it's a long shot and I really can't subscribe
right now, although I plan to put a query in. My computer is back to acting
up again and probably has to be reformatted, so I maybe offline for a week
or so.

A service isn't 'free' when you are charged for it.
Free.....at least the way I was taught.....was a product/service that you could see/use without cost or obligation. A 14-day "free" trial from ancestry is only "free" if you have a charge card.
Always a catch somewhere.

If anyone has this same suspicion about the WALKINGSTICKs or WALKERs in

Cathy:
If you're going to Tahlequah to do some genealogical research, a good place
is at the Cherokee Heritage Center. They have a Cherokee Genealogy Center
office that has all the rolls and other computerized information and will
help you look up your cherokee ancestors. If I remember correctly, the
lady's name that runs this office is also Cathy and she is very helpful.
Best regards. Geoff
