1. RE: 1750 Popish Inhabitants of Ikerrin [1]
Ed, I'm sure if it was published in the "Irish Genealogist" (highly respected and scrutinised by very experienced genealogists) there is good authority for its authenticity. Mary at mmheaphy@eircom.net writes: << There is also another Clonmore which is in the Parish of Inch and next door to Annfield, Cottage, MountCatherine area which has approx 179 acres. >> Mary, This gets us into another confusing area. The Clonmore in Inch CP is "officially" listed as Clon More (along with the slightly smaller Clon Beg). Of course, there's no difference in meaning between Clon More and Clonmore......and they certainly sound the same, with perhaps only a slight change in accent. B
4. Re: Murder Trial Patrick Dillon 1890 [1]
Hi All, Where would I be able to obtain the testimonies of witnesses or trial transcripts in the murder trial of Patrick Dillon dated mid March 1890, held in Clonmel? Patrick is acquitted of patricide, his father Denis Dillon was the supposed victim. The National Archives has sent me information on the case up to the murder trial, but nothing on the murder trial itself. Any information would be extremely helpful. Thanks! Laura

Diane You're right. The email address for Aisling's picture is correct but I, too, had difficulty accessing it tonight. Got something like 'page not available.' So try this in the browser window of your home page: Riordan, Tipperary Scroll down to the website (about # 14 on the list). It opened for me. Aisling is a real honey. 8. Re: MidlandTribune, 1897 [1]
Of course, here in Ireland the cemetaries were most likely right next to the monastery or church and rarely off someplace away from the village. The deceased were stacked in the grave and might be 5 or 6 or more deep. When it got too full, the remains were taken out and put aside leaving room for a new group. Wouldn't want that job! 11. Re: CoTipperary-D Digest V03 #177 [1]
Dear Listers: Hailing from the Historic Tallmadge Circle. I had a drought of thought recently, therefore haven't been a participant--just sitting on the bleachers. However, I got off the bleachers yesterday when my Tipperary Discovery Maps arrived. Talk about excited--that is until I unfolded the first map. No Index! Why did I assume there would be an index? Why didn't I ask if there was an index? It's called delusion which one suffers when he/she is grabbing at everything/anything that would

Richard, Diane, Noel Just some facts to add to Diane's search for her Cleary's/Duly/ Dooley's. Although the Parish Registers in Killaloe Diocese are "open," there are only a couple of mfilm reels available at the LDS. The facts from Salt Lake City are that the Bishop of the time allowed the LDS to mfilm the Registers but left the final decision up to the local Parish Priests. Few cooperated. 14. RE: Need info on Irish records [1]
Hi Rosemary and all, Practically all the wills were (with so much more) blown up by the IRA in the Four Courts in 1922. Indexes survive in the National Archives, Dublin, but they merely provide a name and a date. Irish wills that included property in England may be found in London. Deeds can be found in many places but the largest number in the National Library in Dublin. The Hayes index, "Manuscript Sources for the History of Irish Civilization" is first guide to consult. Land Transfers (since 1850) are

I should have added that prior to 1870 "Father" was regularly used for priests in religious orders, Franciscans, Dominicans, etc. Richard Callanan, London, England. -----Original Message----- From: Richard Callanan [mailto:richard@callanan.demon.co.uk] Sent: 29 June 2003 09:57 To: CoTipperary-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: News Account- Dooly (dual posting) I think we might be expected to take this news report with a grain of salt! The US, your can order Discovery Maps from the Irish Genealogical Society International in Minneapolis. Their website is http://www.rootsweb.com/~irish Once you are there, click on IGSI Resources, then go to Bookstore and then to Maps. Because counties are covered by more than one map, you might want to download the locator maps they have for each province and determine which one you need. Of course, every area I'm interested in seems to straddle two maps. Another note, they have John Grenham co

19. Tipp N. & S. again. Also GOINGS/LANGLEYS. [1]
Thanks for all that info. Janet was more or less right, according to what my historian friend in Tipp. told me on yesterday's trip. He said that it was the N. Tipp GENTRY who were 'sick' of travelling down to Clonmel perpetually to the Courts, etc, that had it changed (i.e. the county divided) in 1800's. On the trip, which had to be aborted after 24 hours because of rain, I saw that Janet's Queen Anne's Lace was indeed everywhere, mile after mile. It was so abundant that it made the roads much narro
20. 1750 Popish Inhabitants of Ikerrin [1]
Howdy Tippers, I recently stumbled onto a web site that made reference to a listing titled: "The Popish Inhabitants Of The Half Barony Of Ikerrin In 1750" I don't see any reference to it in either of John Grenham's editions of "Tracing Your Irish Ancestors" nor do I recall any mention of it at the 4th Irish Genealogical Congress in Sept '01. Another web site indicates it was transcribed in a 1973 edition of "The Irish Genealogist, volume 4, pages 578 - 583" and a third web site (a mail list actually) had

24. TIPPERARY SLATE LEWIS HAYES DURICK DELEHANY HARNEY [1]
As always, Im interested in any articles on or references to the Irish slate industry centerd in Northwest Tipp in and around the parish of Castletownarra or in the southeast Tipperary slate region around AHENNY near Carrick. Both these communities are being researched on both sides of the Atlantic. A few years back the Irish regional magazine SLIEVE AUGHTY had a nice article on the "Killaloe" quarries which are in fact across the Shannon in Tipperary. Tonight I just returned from an exhibit opening
25. Sister Mary Evangelist Quillinan [1]
Several months ago, I was given a notebook of information prepared by the Mount Bruis Irish Countrywomen's Association. In that notebook as the writings of Mary Quillinan of Clonpet (a distant relative, who was to become Sister Mary Evangelist Quillinan of the Presentation Convent in Limerick). Some of the things about which she wrote are quite fascinating and I finally have some time to share them with you. The first will be, in several parts) "A Personal Account of My Experience In Dublin During the Risin
