Hi,
Anyone out there knowledgeable about 19th century Kent Co., DE law? Under what circumstances would a man be forced to pay the state a sum of money if he DID NOT marry a certain woman? Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

For those of you who have Philadelphia Irish roots don't miss this website
http://www.irishphiladelphia.com/. It is a work in progress and thanks to
the creativity of the owners it is a "be sure and check it frequently" for
Pa/De/NJ/MD Irish and those that would like to be!! My own Delaware
immigrant Irish were originally in Philadelphia and then moved to Delaware.
It was often a back and forth thing usually because of economic reasons as
well as family and friends in both places!

Hi
I contacted a friend in Kent Co about your cemetery. Here is what she said:
Nancy,
I believe that cemetery is the Methodist Episcopal Church in Leipsic.
It's located on Rte. 9. I found it listed under this website - along
with quite a few other Delaware area cemeteries.
http://www.russpickett.com/history/decem.htm Actually the link from that
website, went to the www.findagrave.com website. They can also go
directly there to search for the Methodist-Episcopal Church Cemetery in
Lewes. It has been c
Good morning everyone,
First I want to thank each and every one of you'all that has helped me. I
just joined this list about a week ago and already have gotten some very
usefull information.
The cemetery I was refering to in Leipsic is about a block or maybe two off
RT. 9 into the town. Rt. 9 runs along side of the town of Leipsic. They may
call the main street Rt. 9 also, I do not remember but, the main Rt.9 runs
along side of the town.
My grandfather lived across the street from the cemetery, if I

Rebecca,
There was a famous case in New Castle County in about 1708 involving my 4th
great-uncle, William Houston, who put up a marriage bond which was
forfeited because the parties in the marriage were married by a Presbyterian
rather than an Episcopalian minister. William although quite wealthy refused
to pay the bond and was imprisoned. It took an action by his brother Anthony
(my 4th great-grandfather) then in London to get the Pennsylvania Assembly
to reverse the order and release William from pri
Good morning Nancy,
Thanks for the web site. I assume you live in or around Kent County,
Delaware.
Would you happen to know what the name of the cemetery in Leipsic, Delaware
is? Would anyone have transcriped this cemetery? It is a small cemetery.
I know my grandfather is buried there and I beleive my great grandfather
maybe buried there also.
Thanks again,

Good morning Donna,
Yes I am still working on the Burrows family, plus the Short, Messick,
Phillips and Walls families. Being that, I have been stuck on most of the
families, I figure I would see if I could find where they were buried.
Even thou I was born and raised in Delaware, at the present time I live in
another state. So I have to rely on the internet or some of the nice folks
that has already helped me.
You'all have a great weekend,
