4. Re: [NewCastle] Index to Chester Co. PA Naturalizations, 1798-1906 [1]
Debra, Thank you so much for the url for the Chester County Archives. I immediately went and looked up the naturalizations for my Connell and Burns family, and sent off e-mail requests. I heard back this morning from the archives, and will send off my payment for photocopies pdq. What a quick turn-around time, and the person replying was very courteous to suggest putting all 5 request payments in one envelope. The cost is five dollars a copy. Penny Webster Brown Florida

I have no further information on these names. Scharf, Thomas J., History of Delaware, 1609-1888. (Published 1888) Volume Two- pp. 629-663. CHAPTER XXVII. THE CITY OF WILMINGTON. The first directory of Wilmington was issued in 1814, and marked an epoch in the progress of the city. It was published by Robert Porter, then one of the proprietors of the Delaware Journal, and also of the book-store, still maintained by his grandson, Harry Porter, who owns one of the few copies of the directory now in exi
6. [NewCastle] Re: BARTON family in Mill Creek 100, New Castle, Delaware [1]
My guess would be that since John married Rebecca, and Ann didn't marry until 1810, then Ann might be John's sister. Had she been the mother of these children, would she have needed to be named guardian? Anyway, I have the marriage of John and Rebecca in 1790--but you already had that. --------------------------------------------- On Feb. 4, 1680, a petition was sent to Governor Andross to have a new county established between New Castle County, DE and what is now Sussex County, DE. 9. Re: [NewCastle] Welsh Shepherd Weir [1]
Now I'm two days further on in my email cleansing and here you already know what I just looked up for you. There was a lady doing research on Shepherds of Cecil Co some years ago. Her work might be in the Hist Soc there. It wouldn't hurt to ask. Piggett was a good quaker name in Cecil Co. though of course that's not Paggett but close. There were Weirs in New Castle Co before 1812 and many are buried in Christiana Church. Just after I answer the first letter of yours I found another on those Weirs and

Isabel- I wonder if you might be willing to do a lookup for me.. My gr gr grandfather, Elisha CROUCH stated in his civil war records that he was from New Castle Co., but we have discovered that he was apparently an orphan and took the name Crouch from the family who raised him. We haven't been able to find much on him. He married Mary Jane CROCKETT in 1848 (Feb 24th?). We have been unable to find anything much on her, either. They had the following children: Morgan Crouch, b. 1849 Francis Crouch, b. 185

Penny, The ladies at the Chester Co. Archives are indeed very helpful--and quick. Just imagine how many requests they get, especially considering that Delaware and Lancaster Counties in PA, as well as our New Castle County, were once part of Chester Co. In the past, list members have contacted me giving me info on their ancestors or relatives buried at St. Martin's but some of your e-mail address have changed & I have not been able to reach you. I am researching the Barton Family in Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle, Delaware. John Barton died about 1808 and left the following minor children: Molly, William, Samuel, Archibald, and John. In 1790 John Barton of Mill Creek 100, yeoman, married Rebecca Kenney In 1810 Ann Barton married Amos Sanders Is anyone else researching this family? Any information will be very much appreciated.
