My gg grandfather was supposedly killed in an explosion at the Dupont
gun powder plant on the Brandywine River in DE in late 1815 or early
1816. Can anyone tell me if such a plant existed and if so where.
I would also be interested in any information on the plant or how I
might go about finding something out about this accident.
Thank you
John
Hello Anita,
I found this in a booklet that I have "Neighbors of
the Wilmington-Great Vally Turnpike"
Weldon is not my family
pg.48 Record of the Weldin family
record given by Mrs. Charles Bird
It says:
Jocob Weldin b. abt 1700 d. abt 1775 resided on a farm
in Brandywine Hundred, New Castle Co. De.
He was a blacksmith by trade, owned 200 acres of
upland and a tract of marsh land on Cherry Island.
He was an active member of the Friends Meeting at

The first blank should probably be 'Pennsylvania', and the second one is
'Sussex'.
Hi, I would gladly help you but I am a new researcher to Delaware records,
I don't know a lot yet abt. what type of records are available for Delaware.
Perhaps someone else on this list can step in and make some suggestions. I
have found the people on this list very helpful. I belong to a lot of other
lists and this one is especially made up of kind and courteous people. If
someone can help you, I'm sure I can learn from them myself. Sorry, but
wish you good luck in your research.

John,
The Hagley Museum website has the library catalog for their library and The
Soda House, The soda house has unlimited information on the Powder Mills
history, including payroll ledgers, Lots of information on workers not only
from DuPont but all over the state. It is worth looking into. It is hard from
the online catalog to get a full understanding of what they have. It is worth
a daytrip for research.

I'm not impressed with the new DE Archives website. In the not too distant
past I went to their website, sent them an e-mail w/what information I had
& what record I was looking for. W/in a day or two at most I received a
reply stating what record(s) was available and the cost. I sent them a
check and a copy of their e-mailed information and w/in no time I had a
copy of the will or deed I needed.

Hi,
As a follow-up to earlier messages about Riverview Cemetery, there was an
article in Saturday's News Journal reporting that a federal bankruptcy judge
Friday approved a trustee's request to have Riverview Cemetery's land
declared abandoned. On the same page, there are 16 archived stories about the
Cemetery.

Kristin,
Silverbrook Cemetery records were on site. The cemetery itself is well
kept. The folks there were very helpful. The staff showed us the
location of an unmarked grave. Also answered questions over the phone.

Hello Everyone,
I wanted to ask a few questions regarding Silverbrook Cemetery on Lancaster Ave. in Wilmington.
1. Are their records kept on location? If not, where could I find them? Are they good about responding to requests?
2. What type of condition is the cemetery in?
I am looking to find out who may be buried with my great great grandfather, John CASSIDY d. October 13, 1949.
I appreciate any and all help.
Thank you,
Kristin
Is there anyone researching the HEATH family of DE/MD?? I am working
on my MATTHEWS family, with the progenitor being thus far, a James
MATTHEWS of New Castle Co. who died in 1776. According to some old
notes there was a duel between (another) James MATTHEWS and a Richard
HEATH in Jan. 1791, in which Ja. died. It reportedly took place near
the New Castle Co./Cecil Co. line. Can anyone suggest how I might
find out the details? TIA
