Jason,
Thanks for your offer to share. However, Catharina was my
great-grandfather's first wife, who died at sea, and therefore not related
to me. I do wonder what happened to their daughter, Sophie Elisabeth. If
she survived infancy, my guess is that she was probably cared for in America
by another Schroerlucke family or perhaps an Aufderhaar family. Your 4th
ggf came in 1847. Do you know where he settled? Could he have taken Sophie?
Do you know the name of the ship and/or have a passenger list for the
Dear Ladbergen searchers,
I'm reading this list for a long time, although my ancestors did not origin
directly from Ladbergen. But many surnames are looking familiar for me.
I like to make a proposal to this group.
Please have a look at the site
http://db.genealogy.net/ofb
There you will find a collection of online heritage books of some places in
Germany, among others the books of Emsbu"eren and Dreierwalde, not far away
from Ladbergen.
I have developed the server script and the association of computer g
Bob,
I will look through my files and see what I can find. I will let you
know. My 4th ggf's family settled in Washington Township, Auglaize
County, Ohio, where he and his wife died and were buried. Many of my
Ladbergen ancestors settled there.

Jennifer,
You will probably receive a good many replies to your question. I have just
today received a book on the history of Ladbergen, and it answers your
question in detail. (There are several reasons.) You may purchase this book
($22) by contacting Myron Fledderjohann at mbfled@nktelco.net It is well
worth the money! Enjoy!

Others on the list may be able to provide a more current or precise answer,
but my 1850's era British map of northwest Germany shows Lienen to be about
8 miles direcly east of Ladbergen.

Hi Bob,
This book is great, my mother gave it to me. My great grandfather, Herman
Friedrich Eschmeier, came to USA in 1865 and settled in Evansville, Indiana.
My husband and I went to Germany in 2000. I loved the beautiful country.
We got to Ladbergen for one day only. It is a beautiful town and very
German. We found only two people that could speak English. I purchased a
small book at the Rat Haus (City Hall). The places in the book "Ladbergen"
are right there. It is a well maintained town as is al
Hello,
Does anyone know why so many people left Germany, most specifically the
Ladbergen area, so life in the US. Were conditions bad for the farmers etc.
My great-great grandfather, wife and her family all settled in Ohio around
1873 from Ladbergen. Unfortunately, this wasn't discussed in any of the
family history I have.
Thanks,
Jennifer
Dear Myron,
Can you tell me how to order the Ladbergen book? My great-grandfather,
August Schultz, lived in New Knoxville at the turn of the previous century.
Thanks much,
Janet Schultz Daniels
I have recently discovered that my great-grandfather, Heinrich Ernst
Schroerlucke (born 28 Dec 1823) emigrated to America from Ladbergen in 1845.
He came with his wife, Kath. Sophie Aufderhaar (born 1 Oct 1821), and their
daughter, Sophie Elisabeth (born 24 May 1844).
Family oral tradition says that Kath died at sea. I have no clue about what
happened to Sophie. Heinrich re-married in Cincinnati in April, 1849 to
Christina Regina Barchalt, who became my great-grandmother. They settled,
had eleven childre
The small community of New Knoxville, Ohio (west central OH) refers to
Ladbergen, Germany as it's "mother town". It has a very informative museum
w/Ladbergen pictures etc.
An English book called "Ladbergen" is available for $20.00 each copy plus
postage. it was translated from the German version written in the 1950's
when the town had a 1000 year celebration.
Contact Myron Fledderjohann / phone: AC419.753.2721 / email:
mbfled@nktelco.net / for this book.

Keane,
The 1882 date as John said is too late for the US-held records. Contacting
the church in Ladbergen is your best bet. They appreciate a small donation to
do that sort of thing, but are used to people in the US. There is very active
visitation between the US and Ladbergen (both ways).
I do have the F. S. Wietholter in my database, but not the Maneke. I am
related to the Wietholter via her mother's KUCK line and further back through
Wierwille. Neil Armstrong is also related along the Wierwille l

My 4th Great Grandfather was Catharina's brother Herman Heinrich Wilhelm
Aufderhaar. I don't have more than Catharina's birthdate and her
husband's name. I do have a rather extensive list of her other
relatives. If you would like I can send you a GEDCOM file with all of
Catharina's linked relatives. Email me direct at jschr@juno.com
