1. Help! Please. [1]
Hello Listers, I am a new bird on the block and I need help. Badly! I have reached the proverbial 'brick wall' and that wall is called: JOHN STABB, born 1701 Berry Pomeroy. On 26 Nov 1733 he married, by Banns, Rebeckah HAMLIN, born 1705 Berry P. Had eight children. The OPC for Berry Pomeroy was most helpful...she found his marriage and his children for me, but just could not find his father and without his father I'm in trouble! The family mainly comes from Brixham. In fact, I THINK this John's gra
2. Re: [DEV] Wyse of Devon [1]
David, I recall that Thomas WYSE of Totnes married into the STURE of Huish family in the 1500's. I think the marriage is in the earliest of the Visitations. If you contact the STEER rootsweb family list, one of the gurus; Jack or Philip STEER will probably have information on the marriage, Best wishes, Mike. ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Arathoon" To: Sent: Tuesday, February 01, 2005 4:10 AM Subject: [DEV] Wyse of Devon > Dear List, >

6. Re: Royal marine BUGLE [1]
Hello Bev, Have you tried the Royal Marine Museum, Portsmouth.? It now occupies that part of Eastney Barracks that once was the Officers' Mess and quarters? They may be able to put you on to some place that sells RM bugles! They also have RM Service Records but whether it's 'Officers' or Other Ranks as well, I don't know. The Royals also have the RM School of Music. It was at Eastney at one time, then moved to Deal where the young musicians were blown up by the IRA. Somebody there might be able to gui
7. Re: [DEV] Certificates [1]
Bob, I have always been told never to laminate, there is something in the plasic that will ruin them over time. You can now buy acid free non-stick polypropylene sheet protectors that slip into ring binders. This is a much safer method. I buy the Sovereign Brand in a box of 100 and they are not very expensive to buy. 9. Re: [DEV] BIRTHS & BAPTISMS - UNWRITTEN LAW? [1]
Hello Ann, A copy of this is addressed to DEVON- L' as the answeres given to the original question have reiterated a number of common mistakes or misunderstandings. You are correct in saying that topography often dictates the place of baptism. A parish church may well be a long way away from the home while another parish church, ( of the next parish) may well be only a few hundred yards (or metres) away. Your next paragraph is misleading in that baptism is not involed at all with the regula

12. Re: [DEV] Pellew Family [1]
Hi Sue: You've probably seen the PELLEW of Canonteign (Lord Exmouth) tombs in Christow Parish Church. I recollect from history lessons that the original Lord Exmouth (the naval hero) came from a Cornish family. A member of the PELLEW clan married into the Bovey Tracey HOLEs, Mike. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sue Lewis" To: Sent: Friday, February 25, 2005 12:45 AM Subject: [DEV] Pellew Family > Hallo > > I am researching the Pellew family based in and a

I understand one is examined to prove which PARISH is responsible for their upkeep BUT all three are for the same Parish....I thought it was a one time only deal. Do you have to be OLD to apply for PARISH assistance or just poor? If they are for the same BENJAMIN then he wo

Hello, I have nothing pertaining to William LANG but it reminded me of stumbling across a websiste some years ago that contains info about Newgate Prison: http://www.fred.net/jefalvey/home.html Scroll down to the prison link, and on the next page, there is a link toward the bottom -- "names"; click on that to view the list from 1606. The whole thing is pretty gruesome and I hope no one finds an ancestor there! Best Regards, Violet Sunderland mailto:ndloop@sbcglobal.net ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ---

In February the S&M amalgamated with the Royal Engineers and Joseph was posted with the 10th Coy to Spike Island, Queenstown/Cobh, County CORK Ireland. There is no record of his date or place of birth, however his father was also named Joseph. From his death certificate Joseph Jnr would have been born around 1834. My earliest Murphy ancestor, Michael MURPHY married Mary GOSLIN at Topsham, 10 August 1748.
