Hi,
This is my 1st posting to the Devon List, so go easy with me if I break any

Looking for the family of Andrew Dunning who went to Ashburton, Devon,
in or around 1690 from Ireland with his wife to be, Susan Bond. My
information states that they married in Ashburton in or around 1690, had
a child, James Dunning, in 1691 and another child, Robert Dunning, in
1693 before returning to Ireland by 1700. Does anyone have any
information on these Dunnings. It is reported that these Dunnings did
not have any conncetions with the Lord Ashburton family.
Thanks

Is anyone researching Mortons? I'd be most grateful for any help with
information about the Irish family of Charlotte and Charles Carr Morton
who moved to Devon at the beginning of the 19th Century. I'm not a
fam.hist. expert, but am trying to build up a family picture for my work
on one of its members: Savile Morton, a journalist who met a violent
death in Paris in 1852.
Of Savile's siblings, the following appear to have been baptised in the

Hi All,
I am researching my Great Grandfather John Saint Clements PALMER, who

his records Ashburton is mentioned and Stoke Damerel. He was apparently
single when convicted and transported, and had a tatoo of JP inside his
arm. Is anyone familiar with him or perhaps the origins of the Saint

Hello all.
This is a repeat, but I first posted it while the list was still very
'young'. Maybe it will get a better response this time?
Here are some details of my Spiller family in Devon. Its a rare surname
here in the north of England, but as you get closer to the south west, it
gets much more common.
My great grandfather, Walter Spiller, was born in Thurlbear (Thurlbeer? )
on 15 April 1853, son of James Spiller and Elizabeth Ferris. James was born
about 1822 in Thurlbeer according to the 1851 censu
Hi, I'm Mary Ellis and I've been researching my husband's Ellis lines
in the Bideford area of Devon.
Specifically, I'm searching for the parentage and birth/baptismal

Canada, where he married Hannah Darby. They had two sons in Canada
before returning to Bideford, where three more children were born to
them between 1830 and 1836. In 1840, Robert, Hannah and their three
surviving children returned permanently to PEI where Robert die

I am researching the families How (Howe), Hutton, Julian, Signal

I have links to useful genealogical resources, an ahnentafel chart of

on his journey from England to New Zealand in 1893.
Thank you.
William MOORE, born about 1783 somewhere in Devon, married Elizabeth CANN,
born 1784 at Morchard Bishop, in 1805. Her parents were William and Judith
(JAMES), grandparents John and Elizabeth (LEE). Their son, Robert, married
Ann TUCKER in 1833 and their grandson John's family moved to London about
1871.
Can anyone help me with information on William's parents and Elizabeth's
forebears? I would be glad to share details of their descendants down to
the present day.

Hi:
Jim Brannan asked for help in identifying the (pre-1830?) Pigot Devon
directory transcription that Cornwall-Online make available. I've been
advised, by someone who is involved in transcribing other Pigot
directories, that the book:
J. Norton. Guide to the National and Provincial Directories of England and
Wales, excluding London, published before 1856., Royal Historical Society,
1950.
should provide an answer to this query. (Sorry - I don't have easy access
to a copy myself.)

Hi! I'm Jeff Mills. I'm looking for the PINCOMBE (often PINKHAM) and ROCKEY
families in Devonshire. I believe them to be in and around the Okehampton
area. I have had very limited sucess with searches at St. Catherines. At

PINCOMBE/PINKHAM or ROCKEY from just about anywhere!
Thanks!

CourierAloha,
My first attempt at sorting out my Gregory ancestors on this list. My
message begins in Middlesex, but does eventually reach Devon, and
Exeter.
My grandfather was Louis Gordon Rolfe Gregory, born 4 July 1880, in
Hackney District, Middlesex County, England. His father, a druggist,
was John James Gregory, and his mother was Emma Butterworth. When he
came to the U.S. around 1896, Louis Gordon Rolfe Gregory changed his
name to Ralph Gordon, and for the
