1. 1891 DEVON CENSUS INDEXING PROJECT [1]
Greetings !! Within the next week or so, we should have the fiche to enable us to start with the transcription of the Devon portion of the 1891 Census. We already have a goodly band of folk (world-wide) assembled to ''up tools'' and commence this great work, but would _greatly_ be aided if more persons were able to join in. A specially-developed Census input program, that can run on stand-alone DOS or _any_ MSWin environment, has been developed and can be downloaded from a TUTORIAL webpage.... http://mil

4. REYNOLDS [0.974666]
Hi, I have just joined the list and I'm looking for information on the descendants of Sir Joshua REYNOLDS' brothers. I have hit a brickwall with tracing my Reynolds line back, and as family lore has it that Sir Joshua was a gr gr uncle, I thought I may try to work from the other direction.. I have found 4 brothers of Joshua's on the LDS online IGI....Humphrey, Robert, Samuel and Martyn. I don't know if there were more. Would love to hear from someone tracing these lines, or from someone who could point me i
5. Prouse from Clovelly [0.974666]
Hello Brian Randell, I note that you have a "personal interest in Clovelly." My maternal grandmother was an Alice Prouse born at Bideford in 1869 but her oldest known ancestors came from Clovelly. I am not sure whether they were fishermen from the bottom end of town or more likely farmers from the top. I have a Hugh PROUSE who married a Martha RUDD at Clovelly on 10 April 1696. His only known son James married a Jane SOUCH at Woolfardisworthy on 7 May1728. The next in line was another Hugh who was marrie

Hi Tom: >Does anyone have access to the Devon Marriage index for 1832-33 Please. >Tom & Pearl Cooper The only Devon Marriage index I know of is one held by the Devon FHS, who will perform searches in it - in response to postal requests, for a modest fee. (I believe but am not sure that this service is restricted to members.) See under Church Records on the GENUKI/Devon page. I am looking for any information regarding the parents of a James Andrews, who I believe was born in aprox 1806 in Willand Devonshire. Also when my gggreat grandfather arrived in Melbourne Australia in 1848 the shipping record mentioned a place called BETUSKIM. I have not been unable to locate it on my limited maps of U.k. Any help would be appreciated.

To Ann Bastion, With Family Tree Maker - to add to Vaeda's answer, if you want the date to read dd - mm - yy you click on File Then on Preferences Then on Dates/measures Select the way you want the date to read. If you have already entered data all the dates will change. I have used Family Tree Maker, PAF, Roots and tried out a couple of others. I find FTM easy to use. Hope this helps. I'm a new subscriber. I find the Devon surnames as promoted on GENUKI don't produce names at all, hence this request: This is the initial investigation into my Devon ancestry: Richard John Pike LITTLEWORT, later Lt., R.N., born 05/11/1791 in Northam. But the family say Appledore - this I believe to be within the parish of Northam. That much I did get from Genuki. Married Elizabeth BAMSEY b. 29/03/1885 in Plymouth/ M date 31/03/1827 and probably in a St Nicholas Church, Liverpool. The father of Richard w

19. RE: Tossell Family History [0.974666]
An interesting point I learned about motherhood in the later years is that 46 sounds unlikely to us, but it was more common when people had larger families. I have verified ages as late as 52 without it being news-worthy! ;-) It seems that fertility is prolonged because ovulation is suppressed during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It simply takes more years to run out of eggs if you are having kids every two years. --Milo Oregon USA -----Original Message----- From: Chris Tossell Architect [mailto:ctossel

21. Re: Cranch family [0.974666]
I missed the original message on the Cranch family--but I do have a great deal of information on the Cranches, both of various locations in Devon in 16th through 18th centuries, and in the US where many Cranches migrated to, beginning about 1731, continuing 1746, and 1770, and later. I'd be glad to share what I have--much of it comes from Devon Record office MSS and manorial records, much else from 26 MSS archives in the USA of Cranch family materials, including some early MSS genealogies. 23. Vanstone and Moore [0.974666]
Hi all I have been trying to verify the marriage of one Ann VANSTONE to John MOORE about 1837 to 1842 in Exeter. Having just returned from a couple of hours in front of the microfiche reader trawling through the GRO index, I can't find an exact match but I do have the following: Marriage Ann Vanstone - Exeter - Mar Q 1837 ref 10 156 John Moore - Exeter - Mar Q 1837 ref 10 150 Now before I gamble my #6.5 for a copy of the cert what do you think the odds are that the references are a typing error? Dick There is a Fishleigh House about a 3/4 mile to the North of Hatherleigh on the Hatherleigh-Torrington road (A386 I think). Quite a grand place, I've worked in it. Regards John, Plymouth
