1. Re: CAME [1]
Hi Carol Yes, some did. I have Pucket, Brown and Grace ancestors baptised in Winterborne Came and the entire family referred to it as Came on the 1851 and 1861 census. It caused me no end of problems finding their baptisms! Regards Niki Osborne

5. Re: 1851 Census look-up [1]
Dear Norma, There is not really a master index which will point out the location of Reuben Macey/Mason. The master index only has surnames and parishes they can be found in. Nevertheless there is a family of MACEY at Bothenhampton in 1851 comprising Jane 48, John 11, Mary 9, and Silas 15. 6. Re: WHEELER [1]
Hi Eileen, This is what I have to go on. I am trying to locate Rebecca WHEELER's parents and sibs. She was b. April 1815 so she may still have other sibs at home. (hoping). So if I guess her folks may have been born between 1787-1795. Also some of her sibs names may be susan, Louisa, John, Jane, George, Robert, Philip, Julia and Richard if I go by how Rebecca named her own children. Also if Rebeca was one of the first children born her sibs would have been born anywhere from 1817-1831. I have been resea

Dear Janet: I noticed your generous offer of a lookup at St. Mary. Apparently, several of my CLEAL/CLEALL/CLEALE family were baptised, married, buried there. Wondered if you might run across a few in your travels. I would truly appreciate any info time permitted, of course. Sincerely appreciated and thank you for the offer. Yes - I know I keep reminding you that this is the Dorset list and for Dorset messages only, but the Dorset societies will be present at the Hampshire Open Day tomorrow, and I know many of you have ancestors who moved backwards and forwards accross the county borders so I make no real apologies for posting about this. It's at Horndean Community College ( I think - I have put the leaflet down somewhere and can't find it!) from 10am-4pm. If you want more details, come back to me privately by which time I shou

Hi Kim There is a SUDBURY in Derbyshire and it is quite old. Perhaps Dorsetshire is an error. I as far as I am aware I have never seen Dorset described as Dorsetshire. 14. 1881 CENSUS CD-ROM MAUDLIN LANE, SHAFTESBURY [1]
The 1881 census CD-ROM shows Stephen and Charlotte WILMOTT living at Maudlin Lane, Shaftesbury. My copy of the 1901 OS street plan of the town shows a Magdalene Lane to the SW of Holy Trinity Church. Bearing in mind that Magdalene (as in the case of Magdalene College) is often pronounced Maudlin, is the entry on the CD-ROM incorrect or have I missed spotting a Maudlin Lane on the map? 19. Elwells of Dorset and associated families [1]
I am a Yorkshire lady with Elwell ancestory. I am told that the Elwell's originated from the Dorset area and I have seen a street named Elwell Manor Gardens in Weymouth. I am also researching other family names i.e. Simner with connections in Bath, Somerset and Pope and Southall connected with the canals. These families moved to the Wolverhampton area of the West Midlands perhaps late 1700's and I have traced back to my g.g. grandfather William Simner who married Elizabeth Cooksey in Wolverhampton in 1810
