I wonder if anyone on the list is researching the DYMOTT or CULL families.
My interest in the DYMOTT family is with a THOMAS DYMOTT who marries ANN CULL at the parish church of Kinson which, I understand, is part of Bournemouth. I believe he was born in Kinson around 1747.
On their marriage THOMAS DYMOTT and ANN CULL moved to Camford Magna where they raised six children - the last of these was STEPHEN who moved to Southampton and was my ancestor.
Of ANN CULL I know nothing.
I would be pleased to know of
Just to put the record straight, the Somerset & Dorset family History
Society accepts payment by credit card by post or email. The Society
recognises the problems of overseas members and keeps the subscription the
same as for UK ones although sending them magazines and information is much
more expensive. The Society is grateful for all the time given by the many
transcribers and hope all family historians appreciate the many, many hours
of work they put in.

I kept my head down initially, expecting other listers in W Dorset would
respond but I have the contact you need. As it happens I stayed in the
village not long ago and met the Vicar. Her name is The Rev Canon Nerissa
Jones. Her address is The Vicarage, Loders, Dorset, DT6 3SA.
She is responsible for what is called a "United Benefice" which comprises
Askerswell, Dottery, Loders, North Poorton, and Powerstock. So she may be
rather busy!
I hope you find what you are looking for. Best wishes
Brian
Dear list,
I am trying to find out information on a HosKins family that came to
Ontario, Canada in the 1870s. I know of a John Hoskins, born 1818, married
to Grace Allan, born 1818. Their children, that I know of were Jane born
about 1844, married to a Henry Cook, Grace, born 1850, John Jr., born about
1848, Edward born about 1856. There is also a Mary Hoskins, with
conflicting birth dates on her death certificate and tombstone - either 1848
or 1853. I do not know for sure if Mary is a daughte
Hi Peter
David Kerr Cameron wrote a book called The English Fair, c 1998, which
includes descriptions of some of the Hiring Fairs or mops as they were
also called. In general these took place between Michaelmas and
Martinmas (Oct - Nov), but reading through they also took place at other
times of the year eg Old May Day - ie12 May - and some towns held them
twice a year
ISTR gazetteers and trade directories often included details of the
dates hiring fairs if they were held in that town. But they weren't
Hi Sue
Thank you for the Notley information that was most kind of you.
Richard NOTLEY and Catherine GAPE are my gt.gt.gt.gt.gt.grandparents and are the farthest I've got back to so far in my research. I've been trying to find the birth place of both Catherine and Richard - looking through the Parish Register of Upwey and the immediate surrounding area I've found no mention of either of their births, mind you as I expect you are aware some pages in some of the registers are nearly unreadable!
I did
Can I just remind everyone that messages which are political, racial or
about personal religious beleifs, are not acceptable on this list. If any

Hi Val
Sounds very much like local history to me, which I believe is very much
on-topic?
What usually happens in cases like this, ie when due to inflation the
sums involved becomes too small to be practicable, is that the assets
are combined with other charity funds that have similar aims, hopefully
creating something that is easier to administer and of more value to the
recipients.
The following is an example with which I am familiar: although in a
different category - Jonathan Edwards and Gladys Ban
Dear Sirs
Would you know about a ROSE FARM in Dorset in the 1880's and possibly
early 1900's? I don't know the location in Dorset. Maybe it would be not
so far from Lyme Regis. I am not sure about the location. This farm was
owned by the Henley family.
Any information related to this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for your attention.
Sincerely,
L. Fielding.

I wonder if some kind person has any knowledge of Honour BEATON. She is
shown on the legend and map of a survey of the Manor of Oborne dated 1766
carried out by a Mr Bastard on behalf of the lords of the manor, Gonville &
Caius College, Cambridge. It appears that Mrs Beaton is the occupier of some
27 pieces of land and is clearly the most substantial of the people listed
in terms of land held. However, I have so far found no trace of her in any
of the parish registers. I would be grateful if somebody can ei
