been here 7 years so far but in the last couple of years have managed to
go home to my mob a few times, mostly for funerals though. In the last 18
months there have been 4 of them, 2 of them in the last 5 months.
Very sorry re your troubles Alice, as is Jenny. I am having a happy
experience dealing with someone online from Sydney to buy my printer and
scanner. This person is a member of a list based in Perth.

Hi Sharron...havent come accross anything as well presented as the
Commonwealth War Graves Commission over here in the USA. I have found
several sites with National Cemeteries and those buried there....if they made
it back to the USA that is.
There is a site:
http://www.cem.va.gov/nprc.htm
This is a good jump off point for researching Army (Military) service records
in the USA. The required forms that are needed to request the records can be
found at this site.
Best wishes

Pam Gardiner will be pleased to note her email to the Geraldton Guardian
newspaper has already made it to print. In tonight's paper is a letter
asking for help in finding her ANKERS family. Good luck Pam and let us all
know how you get on.

Thank goodness for being too busy. I received one of these and something
must have told me not to deal with it just then. Left it sitting in the
Inbox to deal with later. Well now I know how to deal with it.....
Thanks to the list for yet another timely warning.

Hi Jenny,
I have just received a hard copy of a War Record that I requested about a
month ago....
I was told in their letter that they would send me a hard copy within 4
weeks but digitisation would take 6 months, Sooo, I think you may need to
wait a few more months...
BTW, I have noticed, Once a record is digitised it remains on the site for
anyone to pick up..at any time...

Hi Ann,
To scan negatives or positives (slides/transparencies) you need a
special scanner such as the Nikon Coolscan. You will also need the
appropriate software as well. The process once you have the
equipment is quite simple and I have taught myself the necessary
skills.
Unless you are likely to have hundreds to scan or you are very keen
on photography then the scanner cost is a little prohibitive,
somewhere in the range of $1,200 - $1,500.
There are a number of commercial businesses where you

Here are some really interesting Aussie cemetery related sites to look at.
They aren't easy to find most of the time, and the one by Siobhan Lavelle is
particularly interesting, given her professional background. How I'd love to
be able to meet another 'cemetery nut' especially one so professional in her
taphophilia (love of cemeteries)!!:

If there are those who have difficulty reading email due to poor eyesight
try downloading the FREE program, Virtual Magnifying Glass for Windows.
The program provides a small "magnifying glass" that can be moved over the

It is not perfect, but it is handy.

HI all
a friend in England ask if i could find any info does any one know or
heard of the below
Have you ever heard of a company in Australia by the name of Baggs. That
was her mothers maiden name. She told her that she had two brothers that
had emigrated to Australia in the 1920`s and had opened a canning factory.
That is all her mother had known of them. She knows nothing more than that.
your help appreciated
Sharon
Hello Debbie
I am sorry to mislead you, My query was to DPS to see if anyone was
collecting names from the WAGR workshops as I had all my PENDLEBURY men who
worked there from 1901 to 1985., and one HOLGATE.
When I received this info there was a Railway Archive who gave me the info.
perhaps a google search may find it I will try it.

Hi folks
Wednesday's West also carried this message on the letters page.
Are you related to one of these fallen soldiers?
Midland Redevelopment Authority will hold a special Anzac Day ceremony to
pay tribute to the men commemorated on the Memorial to Fallen Soldiers at
the former Midland Railway Workshops.
We would like to find any living descendants of these men and invite them to
the ceremony. This is a wonderful opportunity for sons, daughters,
grandchildren, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews
Dear Carolyn, I am very interested in attending the workshop.
I actually kept a previous email of yours re this and have been going to
email to ask if only for church members or other interested folks. I may
have three more people interested. Will you be at the Fair on 24.3.02?

Hi Liane and Ken,
As I understand it, the 1901 census contains images of the actual
pages of the enumerators books. It is the index that has been
transcribed and has already been found to contain errors. If you are
lucky and your relies appear in the index, then you will be sure of
downloading factual information as originally given. That is assuming
that it eventually gets back on line.
