Hi all,
I'm new to the list. I'm searching for info on a W. Duke who married Georgia Forrest. I'm not sure of his first name as he is listed on census' as W. but think it may be William. He was born about 1845, I think, and married Georgia before 1876. They had 3 children that I know of.
1) Annie Elizabeth was born in 1876. She was called "the bell of Richland" and married John Thomas Polk, Sr. in Stewart Co., GA on 1 Feb 1891. Annie is my mothers grandmother.

Betty, I didn't respond to this earlier because I thought Lynn did a
great job answering your questions. Lynn's reassessment of the VA data
is the latest information I'm aware of on the Thomas Dew/Duke question
and, in my opinion, she proves they are not the same person. Her work
should supercede that portion of the earlier study by Fred Duke on the
Dukes of Nansemond Co., VA, which is also in my web pages.
