I am trying to find the ancestors of Andrew Dunton, who came to Virginia
on the Bonaventure in the 1630s. Family stories repeat that he came from
Dunton, Essex, England. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Christiana m. Jessie Lee Tibbetts 4/9/1818 by Abel Bake Justice of the Peace
New Sharon, Lincoln, ME. Both listed as residents. Neither were born there
but out on the coast. She died Brownville, Piscataquis, ME 7/30/1888.
Headstone reads age 92 years 8 mo & 15 days at death. Any paper record went
up in flames in early 1900's Brownville fire. Her 11 children all seem to
have been born in New Sharon. None of them died there as they moved to
Brownville.

Here is the description:
GUARANTEED ORIGINAL "U.S. MILITARY TELEGRAPH" hand-written and dated July
10th, 1865. The telegraph was sent from City Point, Virginia to a Major
Cochrane in the Quartermaster Department. "The 96th NYV are still here," the
telegraph reads. "Do not know when they will leave." Signed by A.T. Dunton,

Anyway, we do have quite a bit of information about Vermont Duntons. They
did migrate there from Massachusetts and there were several that migrated
West to Illinois. One Asa Dunton moved to what is now the suburb of Chicago
called Arlington Heights and named the town he founded, "Dunton, Illinois".
